Our Boiy with the strangest record in MMA has been a trip to be a vocal fan of, simply because the casuals & trolls can't be bothered to look below the surface, but I've never trolled anyone about Groovy. I honest to goodness love his unique fighting style, his way of life outside of the cage & pretty much everything about him is so likeable.
Nice that he's starting to collect some W's. This one much more high profile than the last, & there was no drop in cardio from the 1st to the 3rd, so maybe the young man who got thrown into the deep end a bit too soon will start a sweet run!
Even though I say he got thrown into the deep end too soon, there's 2 draws & a couple decision losses that are highly debatable. Just saying that today's Groovy would've dominated & not left it so close.
I'd like to see more wrestling... but that's a cardio expenditure too, so maybe that's a calculated decision. That cardio's been showing improvement every fight, & he mixed a lot of TD's into this fight... but maybe as cardio improves he can mix his wrestling in more.
Just taking a wrestling shot, throws your opponent off his game. That's one of the factors I thought were effective against yancy. He kept him guessing. When you gotta protect for the shot, it throws off your kickboxing because you gotta be ready to sprawl & posture up rather than just lean front heavy & kickbox. So just taking the shot, whether you get it or not is worth doing.
I'm loving it though. So wonderful to see performances like this. Stick & move strategy with the reset worked like a charm to the point where Yancy's corner told him to get wild to not allow it. He even held Groovy's wrist at one point trying to not allow the reset... but it was a perfect strategy.
