"Give an A+ athlete 6 months"

Jake Shields is really bad striking. Something in his brain just makes him retarded at it. I actually think that lots of beer guzzling joes at the bar could actually KO him. For once, they're drunk retarded trash talk is right.
If Dan Henderson on TRT couldn't ko him I doubt a random drunk could.

If they're too small for the NFL, they're not the A+ level athletes that we're talking about. Lots of MMA guys are that level. We're not talking about 200 lb guys.

We're talking about the 300 + lb athletic monsters. We rarely, if ever, get to see those guys in MMA.
lol. so "athlete" simply means big?

there's almost no such thing as 300 lb athletic monsters. there are some guys who get up to 300 lbs because it's necessary for their sport. most of them would weigh alot less if they had to fight for a living. or play a different sport.

it's hilarious that you think a+ level athlete means 300+ lbs.

He still managed to beat multiple champions and a GOAT multiple times. Could a regular athlete do what Sapp did? No. Could a 350 lb guy that couldn't even make it in the NFL do what Sapp did? Yes. And everything that he accomplished was 100% due to superior athleticism and size (an aspect of athleticism).

Imagine an A+ 350 lb guy from the NFL trying what Sapp did. He'd do even better.

everything sapp did was due to excessive steroid use. which is also the only reason he wasn't in the nfl.

well yes, hes very athletic, thats why he can cover distance between himself n the opponent alot quicker than your average mma fighter.

but his athleticism pales in comparison to nba/nfl player.

they are stronger n from explosive than gsp, so their double leg would look even more impressive after few months of training.

The nba players who could make 170 GSP rag dolls. Anyone that weight not a high level grappler gets rag dolled by gsp come on.

Better than basically being a punchline in MMA? Maybe. lol

He'd have to cut to 265 for starters, there goes the "athleticism". Probably can't touch his toes. lol
Yeah, that's kind of the point. These guys would be so dominant and everyone knows it that they're not even allowed the chance to compete. Why is there a 265 cap if these guys wouldnt be so good?

Brock doesn't belong in this conversation because he's 38, has had very serious health issues and probably a lot of wear-n-tear from pro wrestling (fake, but brutal on your body). It's too bad we didn't see a just-out-of-college 23 year old Brock try MMA.

you have no idea what you're talking about. beer guzzling joes have no idea how to fight unless they trained.

that poor girl.

Fighting isn't like other sports. I don't care how athletic you are, some guys either can't take a punch, or just don't like to get hit.
But why assume NFL players have glass jaws, or afraid of getting hit? My guess is you average NFL linemen can take a punch at least as well as Stipe or Reem

Well obviously Shaq would be da best fighter EVA because we all know from watching MMA that the biggest guy is always da best.....derp. eyeroll.gif

Shaq is a terrible athlete dude, did you even watch him play? He was huge so he could dunk on people and scored a shitton of point because of it but he was literally the slowest and least athletic guy on the court....

Michael Jordan, however, was an amazing athlete. Using your "athlete" logic he should have been able to transition to other sports no problem. Guess what? He tried and was a terrible baseball player. So why would I believe that being an athlete of amazing skill in one particular sport would mean that he would be an mma champ?

Flawed logic at it's absolute best.......................

Naw she is an expert, look at her ex BF next to Shaq

This is literally the dumbest fucking post that I've ever read on Sherdog! You are obviously beer guzzling Joe at the bar suffering from delusions...

explain where all the super collegiate football players who are just a little too small for their position in the nfl go? where to the too small collegiate basketball players go? they don't want to make superstar mma money? the only ones i've really seen have had background in combat sports (schuab and mitrione) and even they have had modest success.

of course it's the right career choice to play football. even if being hw champ in boxing pays alot more.

what's butthurt is crying about what you don't have. i don't give a fuck about who chooses NOT to fight. i don't care. let soccer players play soccer. let football players play football. let baseball players play baseball. let fighters fight.

do you have any quote on lesnar's "athletic conditioning" being the reason he didn't make the team and not his lack of actually playing the game?

My quote clearly included his lack of "experience" in American football as the main contributing reason for his (Brock's) failure to secure a spot on an NFL teams roster in my post. His athletic conditioning in and of itself was not enough to overcome his lack of playtime in the sport! That is fact, not my opinion.

I am not going to get into a debate as to how much business career value a bachelors degree from a NCAA D1 college is worth for one of these Athletes that come up short for a professional sports career in their respective sport! I will NEVER win that argument on this website.

Every Sherdog poster knows multitudes of people (that I don't see) with masters degrees that sit on a corner with a sign: Will work for food, God Bless!

Joke, or be serious as you like, thinking that a college degree does not open doors in the Business world. You have my full blessing, it is your prerogative.

lol at people having to point out pro wrestling is fake like someone on here might not know :D

is your argument that they all choose safer lucrative business careers instead of what would seem to be an easy path to mma riches?

Indeed. I personally did not pursue a future from my Wrestling experience, and elected to use my degree to earn a living. Many college graduate athletes are like myself believe it or not, and elect the safe route making moderate money vs the dangerous route of risking getting punched in the face for the possibility a tad more.

Prime GSP vs Prime Wes Welker. Who takes it?

I started visualizing this thinking you meant Wes Simms. That I would have watched!

Of course Welker gets murdered, but GSP would probably just do jabs for 5 rounds.

Anyone who says that <insert athlete name> could be a champ with only 6 months of training is a complete and fucking moron who obviously has no combat sports experience. Even being absolutely dedicated, 6 months of training isn't shit. This is assuming that they have no prior experience, as most of these high level MLB/NFL players have zero training in combat sports. It takes years and years to master the fundamentals of grappling, ditto for striking. And trying to do both at once will result in literally being piss poor at both even after training 6 months to a year. Case in point: Johnny Morton.

You have to remember that guys like Jon Jones, Brock Lesnar, GSP etc already had years and years of training even before they finished high school. Brock has been training and learning the dynamics of grappling since he was a child. 6 months of training may give you enough time to be knowledgable about techniques, but is not NEARLY enough to be proficient in any sense of the word. Do you honestly think that a high level athlete could wrestle with an Olympic level heavyweight wrestler after 6 months of training? Its preposterous. They would get rag-dolled like a child.

you weren't an a or b level athlete with the near certainty of rising to the top of the c level athletes in mma. you're just another d level with a small chance at rising to the top. conor doesn't make a tad more than you.
