Watching this video we can Aspinal's eye sockets ripple from the force of the eye pokes. What seems to make matters worse is that it wasn't one of those ones where they just "rake" down your face, instead the fingers hit the eyes as Aspinal is moving forward and then push into his eye sockets. The nail on his middle finger (the one that "injured" Tom's right eye) does seem to partially disappear into the orbital socket on the top of the eye, while the nail on the pointer finger hooks down completely and disappears entirely. Aspinal is actually pulling his face back and away as the fingers continue to push forward and in. It's pretty brutal.

Instead of debating whether or not Aspinal was truly injured or not because of damage control from his camp/his dad or what one doctor paid by the UFC said in the cage with a few seconds of investigation, just watch the video and gauge for yourself whether that looks like a bad enough eye poke to temporarily blind you.

If you can concede that it does than all we are debating is if a Champion should risk his career on fighting partially blind because his opponent fouled him severely (multiple times) and didn't even get a point docked. Some will say he should've continued because "that's what fighters do" or "fighter [x] did it with an even worse eye-poke" and if that's your opinion so be it, but I think it's pretty evident to say that based on watching the video it's a bad enough eye poke to temporarily blind someone.

This outcome really sucked because Gane truly had a great game-plan/performance and looked like he had the right style and approach to really give Aspinal fits. He had all the momentum prior to the eye-poke despite what the stats say. It would've been fascinating to see if he could've kept that approach or if Aspinal would be able to adjust and force some in-fighting exchanges or get in on a takedown.

that makes me barf a little watching the finger come out of the eye lul. gross. was like a whole inch of finger in there.. i don't even wanna imagine the sound it made. like a penis coming out of a wet vagina sound.. ahhhhh

Dude.. <lmao>

It's a strange world where someone can get brutally poked in both eyes on camera, and people will still claim he's a quitter pretending to be hurt. The clickbait/troll culture we live in is an absolute cancer.
As much as I love, MMA and I have followed the UFC since its inception, I have to say that MMA has the worst fans of any sport, bar none

The eye he complained about doesn't get poked that bad at all, the other one did.

Only in mma do fans blame the guy who got clearly fouled and was left injured for not continuing to fight at a complete disadvantage. Gane was warned twice before the eye poke and did it again. Ive sparred for years with mma gloves and never managed to double eye poke someone. The rate of eye pokes in the ufc is due to the gloves but mostly people gaming the system

It wasn't just the ring doctor!

Bad narrative!

LONG. TERM.

When I caught an elbow to my eye while grappling, my vision was fucked up for a couple hours. The doctor at urgent care said it might be days (it wasn't, I was good by that night but he said it varies a lot). He also said "from what he could see" there wasn't any long term damage, but if I was having issues with vision or pain after a few days to go back in.

You do understand the difference in long term vs short term, yes?

the only eye socket that showed any ripples was the one that he did not feel any pain on...he could not open the other eye, the one where clearly shows that it hardly takes any damage at all, and misses the actual eye and instead hits right were the side of the nose starts and the side of the eye begins, vs the other eye that actually gets poked and you can see the ripples. Not to mention he was way under dramatic when he first got poked, and way over dramatic during the time he was given to recover...He was cleared by virtually everyone, the doctor in the cage cleared him, and after the fight was over, the doctor he went to told him he had no damage in the eye, now, after even more backlash, his daddy took him to their best buddy and apparently his eye still hurts.

At the end of the day no1 can ever prove what the actual fighter says is wrong, hell ppl still think Aljo was not acting lmao...worst acting job you will ever see, and this is not much different, things just dont add up and it does not look authentic at all, go look at all the other eye pokes that ended fights and then look back at this one, its not even close.

They both got badly poked. One of them "looking worse" isn't a scientific method for assessing eye injuries. Asking the aggrieved party if they can see is the only proven methodology.

I also can't buy the narrative that he would choose to lie about not being able to see in the first round of a title fight that he was losing but not getting destroyed in. It seems like just choosing to not give someone the benefit of the doubt when there is very little reason to believe they should be lying based on seeing the foul and the value of using that as an opportunity to quit.

But mostly I just trust my eyes and that shit was bad on both of his.

Nailed it.

And yet we STILL have other posters comparing this to friggin Aljo!!! I can't conceive how you'd see that video clip and and still think that Tom was faking it. Some triggered Gane fans or something.

Gane doesn't have fans lol. It's all Jones fans, this is their best chance to act out and get attention.
