Gaethje pokes Paddy in the eye once and gets warned by the ref to close his fingers. He then pokes Paddy again, knocks him down with a haymaker and follows up with like 50 unanswered punches. By this point Paddy was obviously concussed and fighting on instincts just to survive and he never fully recovered.

No point taken. No time given to Paddy to recover. Insane bad luck for Paddy in a title fight. What can be done to handle these kind of situations better? Or is this just a part of the sport thing?smh.

I think if there is an eye poke after a warning then there should be a point taken and the fighter who was poked should be given 5 minutes to recover and if the ref didn’t see it live he should be able to see the replay to determine.

That sequence shaped the fight and I think Gaethje is well past his prime. He was gassed by round 3 and putting his head down and swinging wild just like he was before Oliveira finished him. Unfortunately for Paddy, by the time Gaethje had slowed down Paddy's brains were already beat into mush and he couldn't capitalize.

I think Ilia or Arman would have finished the Gaethje that we saw last night and I might sound crazy but I think Padddy would have beaten Gaethje last night if not for those eye pokes and if not then at least the fight would have been significantly more competitive.

Too bad for Paddy who showed tremendous heart.

The first one was pretty blatant, but that second one was a punch where the thumb caught the eye. It sucks, but it happens.
The second one is pretty much a classic example of an answer to a question we frequently see asked around here: why shouldn't point deductions for eye pokes be automatic? When a fighter throws a punch and his opponent moves his head offline but not quite enough, occasionally a thumb is going to catch an eye. Taking a point in that situation is rewarding the fighter on the wrong end of the poke for being just a little too slow or a little too lazy. That's a totally different situation than when a fighter sticks a hand in the face, fingers splayed.

The fight should have been paused for that second poke and Paddy given time to recover, but taking a point would have been a pretty bad mistake.

Made a thread about Justin's blatant cheating and ref favoritism.

It got removed.

Sherdog is in on it, too. They fear losing access. Dana is obviously known to destroy reporters if they get too deep.

The eye pokes were egregious and helped shape the fight. And to make it worse, Justin faked a low blow to get a break after Paddy placed a knee perfectly.

Oh, shut your face, they had absolutely no affect on the outcome of the fight, even Paddy himself didn’t complain and his eyes were fine throughout.

Justin thinks people don't notice, his advisor is an idiot. Tip of the hat to Max for calling his shit using shit.

I have been watching MMA for years, this is a first for me...this was just another eye poke, there is a difference in landing the knuckle on the eye (Moreno vs Figgy iirc) and the thumb being open from the fist.

Gaethje's fingers were up the first one and the second one was during a closed fist punch. They were unfortunate but I don't see them as intentional.
