News Gable Steveson MMA Debut Announced - Sep. 12th

We'll see. It's hard to know what to expect from guys who are recent wrestling transplants. Bo hasn't shaped up to match his hype as of yet. He also had a teammate who fought on DWCS -- a Penn State Heavyweight wrestler with insane credentials -- and the guy got absolutely outwrestled and tossed around like a child by the much smaller Karl Williams.

Supposedly Gable has been doing time at Kill Cliff and was also one of JBJ's training partners in preparation for Stipe. That's promising, I guess. He's also got a submission grappling freak show match scheduled against Craig Jones which should be fun and suggests that he's spent at least some amount of time polishing his BJJ.

I dunno, I'm not holding my breath. If the guy had spent every waking moment after the Olympics at ATT, Kill Cliff, AKA, or maybe Xtreme Couture developing his skills before taking some ammy fights that would be one thing. As it stands? No telling how polished of a product we'll get.

That being said, this is his debut opponent...

Or he could be like Aliakbari.
He's way more athletic and explosive than Aliakbari.

*Should* do great is more accurate, but it will depend on where he trains, who he trains with.

I see people making the DC comparison, but that's not so easy. DC had Cain to work with every day.

Based on what? Wrestlers tend to react terribly to shots, at least early on. Brock did, Bo does. His chin could be suspect.
Based on his body build. Like I said, it's a guess.

And Brock reacted terribly, but he had a monster fucking chin.

Or be like Askren and basically refuse to develop any other part of his game.
He went undefeated all the way until he retired with just wrestling and won Bellator and ONE belts. By the time he came to UFC he was practically hobbled and washed.

If he is getting into MMA not sure why he agreed to go take a loss to Craig Jones at the end of this month. Not that it matters but feels like it will give ammo against the hype machine that will run behind him.

Hopefully he pans out. The HW division desperately needs new talent.

These kinds of transitions often hinge on how someone acclimates to striking and reacts to getting punched in the face. Many great wrestlers have completely flamed out in mma.
