What concerns me is that technology has made the room for personal growth very limited. This goes in either direction. I'm certainly not the same person I was 20 years ago, but if I had a specially curated algorithm for myself at 15, I shudder to think the type of person I'd be. I'm a high school English teacher in Canada. The shift right in the past three or four years is dramatic and undeniable. As dramatic and undeniable as the shift left in the previous three or four years.

I'm the sort that just finds it fascinating, but it's a constant topic of conversation and consternation among many of my peers.

How are the teachers and staff handling it? Alarmed?

I'm sure there's plenty of conservative teachers who keep their heads down due the how the School Admin Culture swung so far left... Like Conservative actors/actresses do in Hollywood.

Any thinking on what pushed these kids right? I wonder if the COVID policies and the aftermath of the vaccine mandates caused them to question the government much earlier than most adults.

They're basically the first generation to ditch cable tv almost completely.

My twin girls are Juniors in High School and hardly ever watched any cable TV growing up. Streaming and youtube... I had all the TV's set up with Chromecast and they'd stream everything to them. Ended up cutting the cord to cable because it was wasted money.

Good Mythical Morning was big in my house when they were early Grade school.

No. Traditional broadcasting and marketing firms were under strict advertising guidelines when it comes to childrens content. Something social media owners and its content creators dont adhere to.

YouTube'r i follow did a breakdown of Jake Paul videos back in 2018. On average 50% of the time in his videos was advertising. While childrens television content cant exceed 16% or 18% advertising within an hour depending upon the day. With childrens television content the advertisements cant be associated with the programming. On social media its directly associated with the influencer.

They saw the Woke movement push them as the baddies. They want to have families and careers, but that is not in the cards for them under the Democrat / Leftist world. No critical thinker subscribes to an ideology. Ideologies suck. And, yes, ideologues can and do repel non-ideologues and turn them into non-allies. Not because they don't share any common positions, but because non-ideologues don't want to be complicit in the establishment and defense of an ideological orthodoxy.

Maybe I misspoke but I meant ideology more loosely in terms of ideas and perspective. I don't think anyone disagrees that we should be more interested in seeking the truth over any ideological orthodoxy.

To the question of whether progressives are repelling liberals or moderates to move to conservatism, I suspect it's an accumulation of inconvenient and uncomfortable truths. It's not the messenger's fault.

The fact that most scientists (including political scientists) are and remain politically liberal, indicates to me that an uptick in Gen Z conservatism is not from free thinkers being "pushed out" by ideologues.
