Media Former UFC top contender John Moraga gives young top boxing prospect tough fight

I boxed and trained UFC. I am 48. My kids can kick my ass. <{UberTS}>

News flash MMA fighter is not as good as a fighter that concentrates on a single sport in the specific sport.
Nah, It's not that, that wouldn't be a problem. it's more like "news flash former UFC title challenger is not as good in boxing as fighters making their debut in pro boxing"

Wtf are you talking about? Why is every single one of your posts complete nonsense, are you insane, or just a troll?

He got knocked down by the first punch landed, a jab, then looked like a punching bag for 2 rounds, got completely outclassed and beaten up. The fight could not have been more 1 sided.

"Tough fight"

I don't think age mattered as much as his boxing technique, timing, combos, and defense. It really is different vs pure boxers and a lot of mma fighters/fans still can't grasp the concept of the wide skill gap. There are mma fighters that can compete with high level boxers, but there isn't a lot of them.

LIke who?

You’d think the older fighter would have better technique but this is Sherdog, land of inverted excuses.

Clay Collard has done really well in pro boxing against guys that he was supposed to be fed too. Took the steam outta a few really great prospects.
This is the answer, he has been doing ok in boxing lately, think he signed to fight Pettis iirc.

"Pro" being the key word. Most boxers have extensive amateur careers, that dude was 177-7 in the ammys, and he outboxed a 36 year old B level MMA fighter who wasnt known for his hands and had a slightly above 50% win rate in the UFC. Theres nothing particularly surprising or impressive about that. And because boxing is boxing he will probably spend the next 5 years padding his record with similar opponents.

Yeah, true, true. Digging a little deeper this is a division 1 wrestler who had an 8-6 record in ufc where he got TKO'd 3 times before getting cut 3 years ago, now is 36 facing a dude with 177 amateur wins and his negative record is because his other loss was last year to a dude that finished second in the amateur boxing world championship.

It does look really bad on paper at first glance.

He’s only been TKO’d twice with one being a doctor stoppage. You clearly are clueless.

My point is exactly correct..

A boxer will generally beat an MMA guy in a boxing match
A Judoka will generally beat an MMA guy in a Judo match
A kickboxer will generally beat an MMA guy in a kickboxing match
A wrestler will generally beat an MMA guy in a wrestling match
An MMA guy will generally beat any of the above in an MMA match

There will be exceptions but this will hold true

John Moraga is a pure grappler... it's not like he was outboxing guys in the UFC either

Conor because he's done it already, but current level Conor wouldn't do well. There is Halloway, Dustin, Francis, Stipe, Adesanya, Masvidal, Aldo, Yan, Garbrandth, Kattar, Anderson back then, and some more names out there.

They would all get absolutely battered by any world class boxer.

This is Anderson's boxing record

lol at Conor having "done it already" too. He got clowned and played with by a retired 40 year old Floyd, who made a name for himself at 130 pounds. Conor would get absolutely demolished by any good prime boxer around his weight at 154 or 160.

Here is how he looked in a boxing ring, against an elite fighter.

Adesanya has done better than most. He holds a win over Brian Minto, who is a known name at least. Even that sounds better than it really is. It's the same Brian Minto who got beaten up and stopped by every decent fighter he ever fought, and Izzy could only manage a SD over a 40 year old Minto.

Out of the names you suggested, Max, Poirier and Yan would do the best. Mainly Max because of sheer durability, workrate, stamina, and chin. For those reasons alone he'd put up somewhat of a fight and not look quite as silly as the rest of them, against an elite boxer.
