Fedor's training

Daccias and Gerbil, You're both idiots. Stop wasting everyone's time with this nonsense.

Please don't get your panties in a twist Ma'am.

I think Fedor is the closest thing to God in MMA, i'm just curious how a guy with that physique is that strong/fast and still has great conditioning.

Not sure where to post this, but I found this to be very very interesting. Fedor's website has a Q&A section up, where people can write in questions to be asnwered by Fedor. I found this one particularly interesting:

My translation:

Q: Which exercises with weights do you use in your strength training? Maybe the power lifting trio or other exercises from that arsenal? What, in your opinion, should be the results in Bench Press, Squat, and Dead Lift for a heavy weight fighter that competes on a high level? Generally, I

the reason fedor is pudgy is because he joined sherdog and his first post was something like

"hey i'm a fighter and i'm looking to loose a little weight from my stomach area. I don't do squats or deadlifts, but i train several times a week"

then everyone flamed him for 10 pages and he gave up.

lol

we should break this forum into to sections.

1) people who go to mma gyms at least once a week and want to strength train for injury prevention and sports performance.

2) people who go to a mma webpage and do not train mma...but lift weights.

?????

or the forum can stay as it is...and you can make the decision of whether to come here for advice.

I just find it ironic that people who don't train in a MMA gym are on an MMA training forum giving out misguided advice. Well not ironic pathetic...

Perhaps it's because this subforum is about getting stronger, period. Check out the first question in the FAQ:
Q: How do I get stronger for bjj/judo/mma/tha boxing?

A: You get strong. Too many people fall into the trap of thinking there's some magical exercise that will make their training somehow more applicable to their art, bollocks. Strength is strength, go train heavy and hard and you'll find you get stronger on the mat or in the ring. One leg squats on a gym ball while avoiding a stick swung by an old man with a Fu Manchu moustache won't help.

Do you think you have to train in an MMA gym to know how to get strong?

Now please can we let this piece of shit thread die already?

There are other websites for that, it is sad this one got hijacked by power-lifers. Powerlifting styled workouts are not very useful for MMA athletes.

Name me 5, president day, MMA belt holders, that train with weights the way you guys preach? Its seems to me that the best of the best in MMA train nothing like what you guys outline...and this is an MMA website. You don't find that funny, ironic and or pathetic?

Fedor is fedor man. There's no explaining to do. He runs like 20 km a day but still maintains his weight. Have you seen him eat? Maybe he eats in a day what you eat in a week. For example look at a bear (good example I know). He is a big fat animal but has the strength to crush your skull....with his paw.....with one paw....while playing DBZ 3. What I mean is maybe he went with that principle. Also he's russian. It's cold there, he needs the fat.

GSP trains using triples. Hell, I think the video of him doing so is still on the first page here. Of course he doesn't do it exclusively, but he obviously sees the benefit in doing it or he would spend that time elsewhere.

Point is...being stronger never hurt anyone. It could only hurt someone if that, at the expense of coming in strong, they also came in out of shape.

Also, looking at the weight routines of professional fighters is probably not a good idea except to satisfy one's curiosity. Have you seen Penn lifting? Awful.

No, but since we did hijack it maybe you could just leave nicely?

I'll use Fedor as an example, since you seem to want to lick his nutsack. As he stated, it's important to develop the body to a certain level of base strength. The ways to do that are the same ways to build the body into a mountain of power. At what point a serious, goal-oriented lifter chooses to digress from the principles of building strength and power and instead focus and hone their grappling, BJJ, MT, etc. skills, is up to them, and the people in this forum will no longer be needed.

Until then, we'll keep helping people gain the base level of strength that they will require to become a good fighter. Also until then, it will be the home of some fantastically strong and intelligent individuals. Don't like it? Leave.

How is that so hard to understand? Honestly I think it's pathetic that I had to explain that to you. Pathetic.

I could name 100 present-day MMArtists that aren't champions that don't train with weights the way we preach. Surely that can't be a coincidence.

He said "president" day not present day. I can't name any president day fighters period.

Seriously though, like Ascendant said, this forum is a great resource for getting strong. Don't like it? Go elsewhere.

How you choose to apply your strength & modify your strength training if you choose to train for MMA is up to you, but there are many here that do it who are more than willing to help you with that if it's an issue. The basics are still the same. Do compound lifts with heavy weights.

If you like the forum the way it is, with strength as the ultimate goal, say "AAAaargh!"

If you'd like the forum to change to whatever the fuck nomilkforsanta wants, just go fuck yourself.

Why are there so many morons in this thread? Was it on the Sherdog front page? None of the regulars in this forum ever claim that strength is of primary importance in fighting.

I'm thinking that you are intimidated by muscular men. Maybe you are in denial about some unacceptable feelings you have been having since puberty?

If you already have a solid strength foundation, and come here with a question about a routine for "MMA-strength," I'm sure people here would give you lots of resources.

The majority of the time people who ask questions here are inexperienced with lifting correctly, and don't have an excellent strength-base, which is why we suggest 5x5, rippetoe, etc.

In the Russian section of his website Fedor stated that, back when he used to lift for strength, his max bench press and squat were around 170 kg

Что касается моих показателей, в возрасте 21-23 года от руки я жал где-то 170, примерно так же приседал. С тех пор на максимальный вес я к штанге не подхожу. И вообще стараюсь поменьше уделять внимания штанге, побольше
