Fedor's training

Do not be decieved by looks. Fedor is a prime athlete in MMA. He is a heavyweight champion for a reason. Who cares how he looks ? Who cares if he is a bit chubby the guy is fast, has awsome technique and is in top condition. Maybe it's genetics ? WHo knows and who cares ? Fedor doesn't. He trains to be in shape and win fights, that's what he does and he does it better than any man alive.

One thing I like about Fedor's routine is the simplicity. Outside the gym he does alot of running. Inside he does alot of pad work, heavy bag work, grappling and sparring. I don't wvwn think he does alot of weight lifting either. He mainly does bodyweight exercises. So much for the popular idea that Squats and Deadlifts are essential. Fedor is a good example of simple, straigtforward methods with hardwork deliver results.

Saw this coming.

No one ever said squats and deadlifts are essential for athletics. That does not mean they would not help, though.

Squats are essential in some form.

Fedor does lift weights to maintain his strength between fights. He does heavy lifts while he's not going through camp prior to his fight. The 8-9 weeks before a fight he won't do any heavy lifts because of how much they take out of you stress-wise, so that he can get more BW conditioning and skill training in.

Good point. Fedor isn't strength training in that video, thus this doesn't even belong in this forum.

Gaycism - ban.

Lol...

And like someone else has said...You're seeing a short video clip.

It would be safe to assume that it does not represent every aspect of Fedor's training.

so youve assumed, from one video (that everyone has already seen anyway), that fedor does not weight train...?

Genetics...Fedor even avoids sweets and greasy food, yet he's still chubby.

btw, it's been reported that Fedor deadlifts and squats between fights, someone also posted a pic in the Contenders of him benching. (wierd since Fedor is always asked in interviews what he does for S & C and doesn't mention it)

If Aleks can one-hand clean and press 135# on a barbell without warmup, in his jeans, and they have an enormous weight training facility in their house...I imagine Fedor does some training with weights.

Edit: TS, Fedor eats everything.

How about Fedor trains the way he does and you have the freedom to train the way you want to ?

Daccias and Gerbil, You're both idiots. Stop wasting everyone's time with this nonsense.

Fuck you man. I just offered an opinion. Fedor trains his ass off and is a champion. I mentioned that in my first post. I also stated that Fedor has the freedom to train how he likes as we all do. Who cares how he looks. He trains to win fights in MMA and thats what he does.

From some of the interviews I have read, Fedor did a lot of strength training when he was younger. It's actually remarkably easy to retain strength after years of that kind of training. So it's not like the guy never lifted weights; he just de-emphasized weights as he became more advanced. The guy built the foundation before you ever knew his name.

I think most fighters from what I have seen and read train with heavy weights during there off time between fights. During the last couple months up to there fight, anaerobic work is done and heavy lifting shunned due to the stress on the body put on by heavy lifting, which would lead to over training quickly.

Fedor is no different I would assume. His "chubbness" is in his genetics. Although I wouldn't call him fat. MMA is not a body building contest.

Not sure where to post this, but I found this to be very very interesting. Fedor's website has a Q&A section up, where people can write in questions to be asnwered by Fedor. I found this one particularly interesting:

My translation:

Q: Which exercises with weights do you use in your strength training? Maybe the power lifting trio or other exercises from that arsenal? What, in your opinion, should be the results in Bench Press, Squat, and Dead Lift for a heavy weight fighter that competes on a high level? Generally, I
