Fedor's GnP was insane

Compare that to what Lesnar thought GnP was in his first fight with Mir. Fedor hitting Nog was like a bat hitting a chicago softball. Lesnars GnP was a rabbit humping a balloon.
Wasn't that has second fight ever? His GnP looked pretty damn good in the rematch

Fedor fans are so fucking insecure lol

That Werdum had endless cardio, took down everyone he fought and was closest to BJJ world champion form. Would have rolled Lewis up into pretzel.

Lewis got easily taken down and nearly submitted by 62 year old Oleinik if he wasnt saved by the bell. Ffs.

He didn't have much on his feet and would have had to rush in to get BB down though, I don't see it as an easy win at all. If he can get him down then he should sub him, but he'd have to avoid eating any shots to do it really.

Best GnP!

I find it weird that even without elbows pride featured very vicious GnP. Not to mention stomps and kicks to the downed opponent
No elbows means the fighters had to posture up more for GnP. It may be one less weapon, but it also kinda forced fighters into a better position if they wanted to land good strikes

That era with heavyweights being in that 220-240 range was the best. Just a completely different level of athlete and legit baddest man on the planet.
This era has a lot of guys in the 260+ range. Yes we probably get more first round KO's, but I always feel like HW fights are 50/50 now.

31-1 in HW against top opponents (whatever people want to say in hindsight). Does anyone really look at those opponents and think that Stipe, DC, even Jon Jones or Francis make it through that gauntlet undefeated? Then continue fighting for 10 years and go 40-6?
Stipe is 20-4
DC is 22-3
Jones is 26-1 (Closest to Fedor, but has less HW fights than Dan Hooker)
Francis is 17-3
All need 25 fights to even get to the same numbers of matches, let alone continue winning for the next 10 years as the fight all those fights.
No one is going to equal it especially at HW.

Yeah I agree sir.
The level of athletes were higher, and they didn't gas out in 4 mins lol.

I doubt any of those guys you named could've run that gauntlet unscathed tbh.

Super easy win. Old ass Oleinik doesn't have much on the feet either. Got Lewis down with ease and had him in scarf lock until the bell rang. If that was pride 10 min round he would have submitted Lewis

Indeed. I think it's partly because elbows allow for fighters to stay closer and tighter which makes it safer for the guy on top. You can stay close and still do damage without having to posture up and create enough space to punch which makes the guy on top more difficult to escape from under, sweep or submit.

Good point, I fought under both rulesets, so I can vouch it's completely true.

Without elbows I had to keep a lot more distance on top. Honestly the lack of elbows was a bit more dynamic and therefore exciting.

Being objective that's all. Lewis has terrible grappling and terrible cardio and he's the perfect example of how bad the HW division is today.

Lol you deffo have it in for him for some reason, half your posts are slagging the poor dude off.

Honestly the HW division has always been complete shit. Its the only division that has gotten worse though (maybe LHW too)

That's bullshit. The HW division in the mid 2000s was very good and had lots of depth.

Not sure about 2005 Werdum, that's probably nearly a decade before his prime.
A decade?? You don’t think Werdum hit his prime until his—*checks record*—13th year as a pro? That seems a bit far-fetched. He’d easily have the best resume of any not-in-prime-fighter ever.

I think about 2014 was his prime.

Good for HW maybe. Nostalgia and big names and entertaining fights makes people think it was better than it was. The skill level was really low. Not as bad as today, but really bad

The skill level was low? Based on what? Everyone in the top 10 from the mid 2000s was well rounded and athletic af and a base they were a master at.

Lesnar's GnP on Mir in the second fight was very brutal.

People should ask themselves why they think the division was so much better back when there were fewer participants and less money in the sport.

You usually have pretty reasonable takes, but that’s insane. He looked like dogshit after returning from his PED failure, so that would mean his prime was what—3 years long maybe? He managed to beat not only Fedor, but Overeem, Gonzaga, Bigfoot, Nelson, Nogueira (albeit post-prime Nogueira), and Aleks all before he hit his prime? Damn.
