Fat BJJ guys

I'm probably the fattest guy at my gym at 6 foot and 250 pounds. I've seen one other guy who looked bigger than me once, but I haven't seen him there since.

LOL! Awesome post! I prefer to describe myself as a chunky but funky player! Big guy, 6' & 270lbs, with little man's guard skills, working to implement inverted techniques, ala Cyborg, in the new year! I've insisted for last couple of years on starting on bottom when rolling to strengthen my guard/sweep game. I find that I have more partners to roll with also!!

Funny - I do the same thing sometimes. If I don't start from standing so I can get some TD or throws in we go from knees or I start on bottom to work guard ('cause I don't like it and usually guys can't put me there). So my guard/sweep game is pretty good. I tend to look for sweeps more than subs from the bottom but should probably start focusing more on subs to round out the game for that extreme case where I can't get off the bottom...

We did, but he ended up going out with a pretty nasty injury (ruptured bicep tendon). He was a big guy too ~350-360 and he rolled pretty darn well and had decent cardio as well.

Big guys with technical guards scare the shit out of me, I do not expect a massive dude to pull guard and start playing something like spider

YES!

I'm the former big guy, coming down from around 280ish when I started at this gym. I always liked to pull guard though, thinking that if I could develop a guard AND develop take down skills (which is why I started judo), people wouldn't know what to do with me.

More importantly, I'd develop a more well-rounded game as I started getting sweeps and then working guard passes from there (working a top game too).

So, when new big guys show up, I'm always pushing them to work guard rather than the typical midget wrestling battle for top position.

There is an extreme large guy at my school, he's gotta be at LEAST 250 easy. And I can never roll with him. He just tosses me around and I have no answer for him. Hell, it's not like I can even get my legs around him to hold guard.

Sad thing is, and this just could be my total lack of skill talking, I feel like when I watch him I do have more technique then hi, but just not enough of it to overcome someone as powerful as him.

The Inverted Gear panda bear reminds me of him, except the panda is far more flexible.

I'm 300lbs (6'7"). I'm always early to class, and before my recent layoff from class, I always beasted through our cardio sessions. Now I find myself having to stop for a couple of seconds sometimes, but it's coming back.

Why haven't I seen the Fatlardo Gracie signature jpeg yet?!

Also, a fat guy with good skills will rock you, thank god for butterfly guard.

I always find them to the be the worst of the big guys. Buff guys have handles, and actually gas quicker very often. Fat guys have nothing to grab, and if they have decent cardio....fffffuuuuuu...

We have 1 Roy Nelson type. He's like 6 foot 260. Definitely find myself playing a MUCH more conservative guard game against him because if he gets side control it's death. Being gassed and having a really heavy guy crushing you in side control might be the worst feeling in the world.

250 is extremely large? :icon_neut Are people littler in New York, or something? Unless he's short, that's not that large. I'm sure this comes off as just being sensitive since that's my weight. :icon_chee But I honestly think a guy at 6 feet or taller weighing 250 could very well be a fit dude, even with some belly. People at the gym typically underguess my weight, for example, because I have a lot of mass in my legs.
