Fat BJJ guys

250 is extremely large? :icon_neut Are people littler in New York, or something? Unless he's short, that's not that large. I'm sure this comes off as just being sensitive since that's my weight. :icon_chee But I honestly think a guy at 6 feet or taller weighing 250 could very well be a fit dude, even with some belly. People at the gym typically underguess my weight, for example, because I have a lot of mass in my legs.

He said the guy was too big to close his guard around him. My money is on the guy he's talking about being short and round. As I said before, I have a guy who is somewhere in the 265-280 range...but he's only 5'6".

We used to have this spazzy guy, who is studying in the US, play guard in American Football, so he is a huge guy with lots of fat but absolutely no stamina, barely any technique and extremely prone to choke (shit, even a half-locked mounted triangle is enough for him to tap). He is slightly shorter than me but outweighted me at least 20+ kg (40+ pounds) or so. I hate rolling with him because he often just spazz on me, not to mention he tends to just sit on my half guard and wrench an americana, no matters how tight my defense was because of his brute strength. He also once accidentally "heel hooked" me by grabbing my one of my leg and pull it in a direction of a heel hook when i was using a knee shield half guard against him. I heard a pop on my knee. Luckily it was only a strain, but since then i avoid rolling with him and even when i roll i just let him do whatever he want while i only play defense. There's no need to be competitive with someone who just spazz on you and doing shits that may cause injury.

It sounds like his technique was just superior to yours.

Fat Jitsu rules.

Im 5'11 and about 245 to 250 former Full Back. I just make sure I bring a good work ethic into class. My conditioning sucks but I keep going through work outs and drills. I do feel bad for the guy I'm drilling on cause I do sweat like a beast lol. When we roll I always try to pull guard to work on my technique. My biggest problem is my flexibility. But Im stretching twice a day now. after about 6 months I should have dropped some weight tho well see.

6'1, 300 lbs these days, brown.

I once drank 6 liters during a midday session at Fightzone Copacabana and still cramped out from dehydration. Have no definite number but my weight loss due to sweat must've been awesome in the 40 degrees Celsius/ 104 degrees Fahrenheit heat. :)

And I've also experienced out-cardioing big muscled guys.

Maybe it's because being stronger is such a big deal to them that they have to prove it all costs and gas?

Best non-slim guy I've ever rolled with is this guy:

Made me feel like a delicate flower as he swept me all over the place. :)

The way some bigger guys have handled me on the mats and judging from your guys' experiences proves that BJJ/grappling caters to any body type.

I live about a 45 minute drive from that academy. When I get back into school by next fall I want to go train there. Hear good things about it and all the rules in Judo piss me off.

Go for it! Especially if you're a big guy!

Was very inspirational to roll with a fellow eh, non-slim guy and see how good his guard was.
Most big guys are due to lack of specific training and a love for the knee-wrasslin' and the safety of the top game rather like turtles on their backs.

If you're a true BJJ guy you should be able to hold your own in all positions.
Not everybody can do upside down guard or rubberguard or what have you. But everyone must have a decent answer to any challenge in any position.

I've seen purple belt big guys barely being able to stall on the bottom. That's just sad.

To be quite honest, I'm a horrible judge of weight.

He's a little taller than me, I'm 5'8", and it's been a while since I've seen him but he's gotta be under 6'. And that 250 was an extremely generous estimate. Don't get me wrong, dude's got muscle under there, but more like the muscle of a linebacker... or like a guy who's been fat his whole life so he has the muscle from constantly carrying around extra weight. (Not being mean, but serious) It's just that on top of all that muscle there's a generous portion of fat. Probably closer to 300 than 250.

serve up the straight armbar from gaurd vs these behemoths, number one remedy for them

I make a living countering that one and passing into side control. It used to work though.

I like to keep a high pace (steady, even & methodical) and that seems to affect everyone eventually.

My gym as one brown now that got third in the Abu dhabi pro last year at purple, insanly good and flexible, he should be around 130 kilos...

+1

You gotta have a pretty spectacular armbar from guard to sub a decent or better big guy.

I can't even remember the last time it happened.

My guard game is pretty strong because I started BJJ at 5'10", 278lbs (female!) I was scared to put my weight down on anyone, so I didn't like being on top. I am down to 203 now, and feel my top game is at least 6 months behind my guard game. I have started playing with tornado and inverted guard, but knee on belly scares the sh** outta me. LOL

I got down to 268 at the beginning of this year, but injuries set me back and I stopped training and lost motivation. Then I gained everything back and then some.

I'm 5'9" and 299lbs. I was over 300 a few days ago. And 326-327 2 months ago. So I am making progress again.

I started to roll again last week (8 month break) and it was torture. There are some techniques that I have zero flexibility. I can barely wrap my legs around a guy's neck for the triangle or lock it in. If I get someone to submit from it, it's because they tapped quick not because I have it locked. Or trying to stuff my legs to get my opponent into half guard after shrimping from the bottom of side control.

Not to mention I get gassed super fast.

I made this video as a joke for my friend because I submitted 3 people from sitting on them from full mount. They couldn't breath. He called it the KFC technique :icon_chee

We have a winner.

I can't complete a triangle from guard either unless they have absolutely no clue what's going on. From mount I'm afraid I'm going to kill somebody if I locked it up. I've only locked it up once fully, from mount, while free rolling and they were out just as soon as I locked up my leg. This wasn't a little guy either, he was 200+ lbs as well.

I wouldn't worry about it to be honest; Everyone has their game and triangles probably aren't destined to be a part of yours. Work your game.

We have a winner.

Yamashita osaekomi time!
