Fat BJJ guys

Interesting topic here. I actually fall into the category of being not-slim as well. Well, for now at least.

One idea that could always be reinforce is that depending over attributes over technique will always hinder you. It doesn't matter if it's weight, strength, flexibility, speed or any other attributes.

The big guys that get really good are usually those that stop out of their comfort zone and just focus on learning.

Thiago Monstro Borges is one of our instructors.

I have rolled with him and his nickname fits.

I'd really like to train with Munduruca (who 350lb Fist mentioned.) I rarely get to see high-level big guys in action close up.

Just a heads up to the little guys: we know when you're ducking us.

We had one he was 290-300ish @ my old gym, getting pulled into his guard was like Greg Gaggenwankers ziplock like grip.

Just think about how good of Fat-Jitsu GSparky could have had by now if he had started training when he promised to, several years ago.

I was 366 when I started BJJ September of 2012, I'm about 315 now.

I'm decent for our whitebelts (other than the career whitebelts) and compete and do decent. I dont skip warmups, I sweat through my gi in about 5 minutes.

Are most of you big dudes uncontrollably big or do you just continue to eat like shit after you drop 10lbs a class from sweat?

I'm 6'7" 290, down from 330, and my cardio is right up there with the small guys. I make the warm ups most of the time, unless I happen to be running late from work. Diet is a lot of it...I will admit I'm a foodie, but 290 at my height isn't ridiculous looking, mostly a gut.

Outside of medical conditions, there's no such thing as "uncontrollably big". You either eat enough, or you get smaller over time.

And while I do tend to drop upwards of 10 lbs in water weight after a couple hours of rolling at night, I typically don't put the weight back on until mid day the day after, once I've been drinking water for hours.

im a big guy. i've also lost a LOT of weight this year after being fed up with being fat. i hope to be at my goal weight by the end of this year.

fwiw i'm the first one there and the last one to leave. i hit my globogym a few times a week too - weights, pool, other cardio. i'm not going to hold up my training partners and i'll work my ass off (literally) to make sure they are getting what they came for.

being lazy is what made me fat, and killing that habit is what is making me un-fat. and it's working.

We have a 110kg (242 pounds approx.) three stripe white guy in my class who is 5'7 at the most. I am nearly 100 pounds smaller than him and being in his side control feels like an elephant is sitting on me. Knee on belly feels even worse...

I'm the fat guy of my gym but I work do no-gi twice a week (3 hour sessions), hit the weight twice a week (45-60 mins) and do 2 strict cardio days a week (60 minutes or more). I'm just a fat guy, even though I eat cleaner than any other guys I know.

I usually describe myself as a big guy on Sherdog, but after reading about the lurking monsters in F12, I think I'll start going with tall and lanky. Not that I am all that lanky, but 6'2" and 215 lbs doesn't seem to be very big in comparison with the 5'11" 300 lbers who keep posting in this thread.

You're not exactly wrong. For me, 215 is light enough that I wouldn't feel right practicing knee on belly against you if we were partnered up for drilling.

Then how are you still fat?

I dunno. I've been fat since I was a kid. The lightest I've ever been was 250 lbs as a vegan working out 7 days a week and boxing/kickboxing 3 days a week. Some people are just fat.

Its not possible though, scientifically. If you're expending more calories than you're taking in, you won't be able to maintain weight.

Your diet can't be that clean.

Some people are just fat.

Incorrect. Some people just have no awareness of how much they eat and how many calories they actually expend. Make a food/activity log.

The only common issue with unlosable weight that I know of is thyroid problems, and lazy fatties love throwing that one around.

You can't cheat thermodynamics.
