Yeh, no one is being Ocean, May, Ray Palpatine or Darth gimpy bullocks merchandise'They' aren't the best & brightest within the entertainment industry, it was Kathleen Kennedy and Leslye Headland.
And it's by no means their best effort.
At this point the brand is a punchline by creators that view the fanbase with disdain, and are extracting as much from it as they can.
Star Wars still brings in $1 Billion a year through merchandise sales, but there's no way in hell they're making much off anything from what they've produced themselves, possibly with the exception of Baby Yoda.
