Why? It's not like Lopes is some undefeated phenom or something. He lost on DWCS, then went 2-1 vs some regional bums before losing his UFC debut to Evloev. Volkanovski is going to put on a master class.

I think Lopes stock is rising and Volk's is falling. Volk has the better resume and it's not even close. The question is who is the better fighter in 2025. I think it is Lopes. I think we have seen peak Volk and the Volk you are talking about doesn't exist. If Volk and Lopes were stocks I would be buying Lopes. If Volk were a stock I would say........... Sell Mortimer, sell!

Yeah true, he gets paid in such a higher bracket he really doesn't have room to fight some cans to get a few W's. History shows after guys lose belts they typically look way different the rest of their career. Lopes is probably the easiest fight for a title for Volk, so it's now or never. I'm glad we don't have to watch Topuria take out Volk a 2nd time.

I absolutely hate Mosvar and wish him nothing but the worst. That being said, it’s insane it’s not him vs Lopes for this fight.

Volk should fight someone like Sterling IMO.

I actually think it's pretty disrespectful to make him fight for the title.

Even if that's what Volk wants, the UFC are only doing it with one eye on propelling Lopes forward and building his name. They might as well smirk at him with their fingers crossed behind their back.

I don't find matchmaking like this as "respectful" as others seem to.

Let's call it as it is: Volk has a chance, but ultimately he's being sent out to lose.

I don't think this is just to propel Lopes at all.

Volk is 36. He's old for FW. He might only have a handful of fights left in him. For the UFC, that means they only have a few more chances to do business with him. If he wins, that's good for the Aussie market. UFC would love that. They would like to have Volk champ again now for a couple of fights to make the money they can off him, then get Lopes or whoever else is looking hot a bit later on.

They might not get another Aussie champ to market for a while.
