Ever heard of a fighter getting slept twice in a row an than get a title shot?

Yep!

So do you, BTW!

Over Volkanovski? No fucking way. They are serving him Lopes' penis-shaped head a platter because they want him to get the belt back, otherwise they would have given him a tougher fight vs Evloev (who already beat Adolf Mullethead).

I'd prefer Volk to fight Evloev, myself.

I sorta get what you're saying, but they're essentially feeding a legend on a 'getting finished' streak to a guy who needs an elite level finish. This is the sorta fight where Volk will look great for 3 and a half rounds before getting finished in the fourth because "Father Time".

But you're right that the UFC would prefer Evloev not get the title any time soon. They're favouring Lopes because he's a DWCS guy with quite a few finishes. Also because Lopes actually fights. Evloev has only fought twice since beating Lopes, and that was forever ago. Hard to sell fights based on that shit.

Volks done
On the downside of 35 with back to back ko losses

That's how fast this game passes you by and it's over

its ruthless as fuck
It sure is and it’s got me nervous. Isn’t there a statistic that people his age in his weight class haven’t won a top fight? I hope with this time off he’s had he can pull something off, but I’m sure Diego is training his ass off for this moment. (But so did his last opponents)

Yeah... Volk is a great fighter but he should of taken a warm up or something. A real top fight would've been Evoloev vs Lopes.
This is UFC there's no money in warmups hell everyone here was saying volk should be fight lopes to warm u for Illa!
Time to see if volk is old or not.

I've been saying FW is the weakest division in the UFC for the last 5 years or more...

never lost at featherweight other than Ilia, he deserves one last shot

Seriously, the guy was undefeated at FW with 6 title victories. He's lost once in that weight class. His next fight being for a title in that weight class makes plenty of sense, especially considering the champion and only man to beat him there vacated.

People are really holding it against volk that he lost that short notice fight up a weight class

That belt will be paper if volk wins

Why? the only guys to ever beat Volk don't fight at FW anymore.

It'll be a paper either way, as long as Topuria is around.

Not if topuria won't make FW anymore. I'm sure the general perception from the fanbase will agree with you guys, though. but you can't be considered the uncrowned champ of a division while refusing to fight in it.

I think Lopes starches him.

Why? It's not like Lopes is some undefeated phenom or something. He lost on DWCS, then went 2-1 vs some regional bums before losing his UFC debut to Evloev. Volkanovski is going to put on a master class.

I absolutely hate Mosvar and wish him nothing but the worst. That being said, it’s insane it’s not him vs Lopes for this fight.

Volk should fight someone like Sterling IMO.

Where he was at years ago is irrelevant. Since being in the UFC he's looked fantastic, against good or great opposition. Unless those "regional bums" would beat the likes of Yusuf and Ortega or give Evloev fits.

<mma3>

Immediately after getting slept by Conor, Aldo fought for and won the the interim (later upgraded to undisputed) FW championship that he had lost in his previous fight, then got stopped by Max only to get stopped by Max for the title in his very next fight.

Then later on after dropping down to BW for the first time (in the UFC?), they they gave him a title shot against Yan as a reward for being 0-1 in the division.

So not what you asked; but…
Because he was one of the best fighters in the world at the time. Does your mom have to first chew the food that you consume?

He has one loss at featherweight. If you frame it like that, his title shot isn't any less deserving than many fighters who have gotten title shots after losing the belt.

Without an Aussie champ, you have no events for Australia, as no fighter in their right mind wants to earn there, pay a 40% local tax, then go back to their homecountry and pay another 30-40%.

Right now, DDP is Mr. Aussie card.

Honestly, I see it as "here's your shot for taking the Islam fight on short notice, now we're square and if you keep losing it's time to headline Saudi fight Nights like Izzy."
Dana might think Australia is in Africa. So DDP works

Appears they want an Aussie champion, badly. Presume they have plans of going back at some point relatively soon
Aussies will buy tickets for local events regardless

Maybe they are still rewarding him for stepping in against Islam the second time, as ridiculous as it is at this point

If Volk loses (which I think he will) does he retire or go up and give lightweight a crack. I can’t imagine the weight cut is good at nearly 37.

Also I watched one of his recent interviews and the CTE is starting to show more now.
