The choke was never close and he got reversed immediately, just before the bell. But yes technically he did "try" for those couple seconds to finish.

His description about how Khamzat always knew his next move sounds like what Poirier said after Khabib.

To me it looked like a senior state wrestling champ wrestling a kid in 8th grade. No matter what ddp tried, sit outs, wrist control, everything, khamzat knew what he'd try and had already countered it 1000s of times in practice and it was easy work. Grappling levels and one guy was in the majors and the other was still in little league.

And I have just rewatched the last round, it was even worse than what I have remembered he tried the choke at the 00:26 seconds on the timer then let it go 3 seconds later cause it didn't work. Then he did absolutly NOTHING even by knowing that he was losing the fight handily ! I don't blame him because he possibly didn't want to get reversed while trying to gnp Khamzat but in that case he shouldnt say that he could almost taste the victory when he basically did nothing the last 20 seconds.

Huge respect to DDP. Went out with these huge balls of steel on him in which was why he lost due to how heavy they were carrying them in the octagon and lost his title like a MAN, unlike Jon Jones who would NEVER do that, but retired a duck instead of fighting Aspinall.
