Because if you do, you need to jump off a cliff.
MMA is as exciting as it's ever been, if not moreso. The last two nights showed it, once again.
I hate that fighters don't get finished as easily. They're too smart, too well trained.
Toss some more mediocre talent in there please. I wanna see finishes.
Edgar is the epitome of a point fighter and it's laughable that people try to say he isn't. Great, he managed to knock Maynard out, does that mean Sonnen is a bjj specialist after what he did to Stann? It's not about guys being difficult to put away, it's about what a fighter tries to do in the octagon. Some guys come to fight and that's what we get to see, regardless of whether they got a finish or not. Frankie Edgar comes to score points.
When has Edgar ever done anything with a takedown? When has he not attempted a purely point scoring takedown with less than a minute in the round? When has he committed to landing a hard punch? When has he stood in the pocket and banged?
Edgar scores takedowns and immediately backs away and lets his opponent up. He rarely, if ever, attempts anything on the ground. He always spams takedowns at the end of rounds in order to steal that round. I don't know if I've ever seen him throw punches with bad intentions before. He looks to outscore his opponents and that's it.
Face it, Edgar is out there to sway the judges any way he can, he's admitted as much before. Stop denying the reality of things.
There's a world of difference between a guy like Jim Miller or Ben Henderson's decisions and Frankie Edgar's decisions.
Not every fight can/will be a finish but finishes will ALWAYS matter in mma. Just accept that whole statement and lets move forward
Generally, it's hard to say MMA is just point fighting. So you do have a good point.
The people who complain about it are pointing to specific fighters.
There are guys at the elite levels; guys like Edgar, MM, and Cruz, who are almost pure point fighters. And they tend to clog up Main Events with 25 minutes of their games.
dont worry, WMMA is on its way to the UFC
Funny how you left out GSP in there. Nice inconspicuous nut huggery

I'm the biggest Anderson Silva fan.
I assure you that I've pissed off many a GSP fan on here.
GSP point fights insofar as he would never sacrifice points for a finish... he won't throw a haymaker at a dazed opponent and leave himself open to a TD, he won't pull guard if there is a guillotine available, etc. He also ALWAYS works in a sequence and doesn't look for finish opportunities outside of his planned sequence.
But as a whole, no matter how you feel about him, he's a LOT more sophisticated than Edgar/MM/Cruz and much more interesting to watch than they are.

imo seth actually won that fight... but whatever. yea i didn't like it either.
smith/ricci was a good fight. if you don't think so, i don't know what to tell you. smith was looking to finish the whole time, and imposed his will.
