Economy Donald trump to impose Tariffs feb.1st.

How is that a bad thing, our alcohol sucks..

if Canada really wants to stick it to em, pull a kid rock and get rid of the excess that way..
Our bourbon definitely doesn’t suck. Much better than Canadian corn whiskey. Our rye whiskey is better too.

I highly doubt it.
Are you Canadian?
The hate for Trudeau and the Liberal party has plummeted after their response.
The hate has plummeted? Do you mean they've become less popular than they were already? I think that's debatable.

Anyway, disregarding that, please clarify. You highly doubt what, exactly?

Your guy Thom got in wrong and you can't admit it. Meh... You're Left Cult so it's to be expected.

I think the tariffs are a bad idea, but I am good with being wrong here. It appears we have been taken advantage of so long that they know it and are folding quickly. As soon ad Trudeau is gone I expect Canada to make a better deal too. It may be that Trump has used the tariffs masterfully to get our country a better outcome. Let's see if that is the case or if it blows up in his face. You trying to declare it bad from the jump just makes you a lockstep partisan and not a student of history. Tariffs have been used by the U.S.A. in the past to flourish... and maybe that is the case yet again?

No, you're wrong and you can't admit it.

I think the only people who want an election right now are Conservatives, obviously. Neither Liberals nor NDP benefit from an election call any sooner than necessary unless that bullshit about pensions from the guy who's been vested for a decade has any merit, anyway. Why would I be interested in making it even more likely the Conservatives win? They don't have the best interests of the entire country in mind, only the people who vote for them, just like the Republicans.

I don't agree that anyone can win a trade war but Canada didn't start this and you should ask Ukraine what happens when you choose détente over standing up for yourself to learn why we should not buckle here.

So fuck little PP, fuck Danielle Smith, the traitorous bitches.
I get it. You would rather see the ship sink entirely as long as its the Liberals\NDP in control. Nobody with a lick of sense still supports them after 9 years of failure. How exactly do the Liberals have the best interests of Canadians in mind ? With punishing carbon taxes ? They have failed on every metric.

If you were to simplify things and say Liberal government=tariffs and Conservative government=no tariffs, then you are the traitor to this country.

If you vote liberal no matter what you are the traitor.

I'm saying the Liberal party will now have a better chance of winning.
This is not helping Pierre. Conservatives had a guaranteed victory prior to this chaos.

It's still a guarantee, bud. Liberals are down 26 points as of Saturday. I don't know what you're looking at, but not much has changed at all. The election will be a complete and utter landslide for the conservatives.

He's kinda right though.

These tariffs are ridiculous, the epitome of hubris and ignorance imo. And it's Trumps narcissism that's driving things. But the Dems are so fucking disconnected, they can't communicate why this is such a big deal on a broad scale--in layman's terms. They're stuck between this pandering to the every man schtick ("they're gonna jack up the price of your beer!") and sounding like pompous elites talking down on people.

Like...this really shouldn't be tough to sell to the American people as to why it's a massive overreach and bad for the economy. Trump's ego has given them a softball, and they're still (so far anyway) whiffing.

How would you suggest we do it? I feel like we run into this same issue with everything: the average citizen doesn’t understand it, we explain it, they get mad at us for explaining it and act like we’re arrogant. Rinse and repeat.
If we point out Trump’s overreach, it’s just becomes a meme to them. I’ve wondered if we’d have more success if we used the word tariff less and just used “tax” instead, as most everyone understands that. But I’m sure we’d get accused of lying: “Those aren’t taxes on us, they’re tariffs on China, stupid lying libs!”—that sort of thing.

I think we’ve been pretty clear that tariffs just jack up prices at a time when we certainly don’t want that, and that getting in a trade war with allies will just cause us to lose allies. That’s about as simple as it gets.

No, you're wrong and you can't admit it.

Cling to that Left Cult propaganda... it's funny.

If you think Trump didn't already get concessions out of Mexico that will grow further within a month's time then I have a bet for you? How about avatars for a month?

Easy Win.

I'm not saying they won't win, I'm arguing that this is not helping them win.

They'll watch Trump torch the economy along with our international relations and still make excuses for him.
On the flip side, I'd he rejuvenates the economy and brings us more Labor I could see myself voting for his 3rd term

It's not having an effect on anything in regards to the election. People aren't all of sudden gaining more confidence in the Liberals, because Trump threw out tariffs at us. Even if Trudeau had managed to work out a deal and get a reprieve from the tariffs, the gains would be small if any at all. This is years of pent up frustration at the Liberal government coming to a head. Nothing outside of PP getting caught with no less than six dead hookers in his basement, is gonna move the needle very much.
