If I was dumb enough to think that these DOGE fixes and these tariffs had anything to do with the long term prosperity of the country, I would be fine with the short term pains. But we all know that that isn’t what this is about at all. Well on that note, Canada really isn't in the conversation(fentanyl/illegals), and we have beefed up our border security in response. He needs to be reasonable, but if not, he'll find out real quick that it's a bit more complex than he thinks. He'll have two large international trading partners nailing him dollar for dollar on tariffs. It won't work out well for him.

Personally, I think it's just a spook show to leverage both nations, for when they come to the table to renegotiate NAFTA(or the MEX/CAN/USA...whatever the fuck it's called now) in 2026.

Not a fan of the tariffs obviously, but as Canadians we got outselves to blame for this, how the fuck do we vote Trudeau 2 terms in a row (obviously me and you didn't, but the majority here did), and let him destroy the country year by year by bringing in the worst types of immigrants, and implementing the worst type of woke garbage in our schools and government, and expect a good outcome.

Our healthcare system is shit and overburdened, our education system is garbage, they're not teaching my kid to read in school i gotta do that at home, but they make sure they hang that stupid rainbow flag, they push "diversity is our strength" nonsense, we had those draconian Covid measures, they imposed more gun restrictions, and because we were all relatively comfortable we just kinda bickered and slowly went along with it.

The next few years are gonna suck again, but maybe things need to get worse here before they get better, maybe we need to be pushed in a corner until we don't have much to lose and our only option is to grow a pair and take our country back.

I got mixed feelings about it, I hate that our economy is gonna tank, but at the same time I think we need a big wake up call.

If you believe the theory that tariffs hurt the citizens then you as a Canadian will be heavily impacted by the retaliatory tariffs Canada will apply. Additionally if you do believe the argument that US tariffs hurt Americans, you would really have to ask yourself why Canada's response is to impose corresponding tariffs on the US.

Not gonna read back through this whole thread, but how the hell do you justify a trade war without laying out SPECIFIC targets? This is allegedly about fentanyl and immigration. Okay, let's take that at face value. Those are big problems, fine. So...how about explain to the American people WHY these tariffs are going to lead to reductions in illegal immigration and the importation of illicit drugs and then what you consider to be an acceptable amount of reduction in order to not send prices of a ton of shit skyrocketing?

Why would anyone be scared by this? Federal spending and employee pay is public information. Taxpayers have a right to understand how the government is spending their money and hold them accountable for it. What is scary from that article is why this access would cause a long time, high ranking Treasury official to immediately resign his position.

Why? Because a group of unelected, unvetted, political sycophants, now has access to the system that the federal government uses to pay its bills, to the tune of trillions of dollars. Because of that it also contains the PII of millions of people. Access to that kind of system is normally heavily restricted to people that have gone through an extreme vetting process and background checks. Elon Musk and his buddies just matched in and demanded access. That's why the official resigned.
