Does Weili Stand a Realistic Chance Against Shevchenko?

As great as Weili is, I honestly don't see any clear paths to victory. Valentina is the most well rounded, skilled woman in the sport, and she's bigger than Weili.

Does anyone actually think Weili wins this?
Weili should defend the SW belt 2 or 3 more times before fighting Valentina

Weili is still making huge improvements between every fight. The fighter that fought joanna was much better than the fighter that fought tecia torres. If weili vs. shevchenko happens, it will be in a year or so. Who know's how good weili will be by then.

She’s too small. Val is only going to lose to someone really big and strong

Love Weili, but her trapezius development is troubling to me. Not calling her a cheat, but it's a known indicator of PED usage, so she might be using.

That aside, I don't see what world she beats Shev in. I highly doubt she can outpoint Shev, who is known for being very conservative and careful with her striking. Zhang's best chances would be to lure Shev into exchanges and making it more of a dog fight, but I don't see that even necessarily going her way if it even happens.

Edge to Shev, all day.

Shevchenko is criminally overrated on here. Zhang could definitely take her, she's faster and hits hard, has a legit groundgame too. Size is against her though.

I'm not sure how overrated Valentina is, given that she gave the WGOAT the closest fight of her career since Amanda took the title. I do think that the pressure that Weili applies, along with her strength, skill, speed and durability, will give her a better chance of giving Valentina an exciting fight than any other fighter other than Amanda. The odds will have to be pretty generous, though, for me to take Weili.

If you can't beat Valentina in the clinch you're not going to beat her, period.
Zhang doesn't have the skills to win clinch battles against Valentina, and she's still outmatched in most other areas.

I'm looking forward to the Shevchenko Andrade fight to give me better perspective. I will be surprised, to say the least, if Valentina is any more successful against Jessica than Weili was. While she took more damage from JJ, she delivered far more damage than Valentina did as well, and that was after a horrendous training camp.

I'm looking forward to the fight as well, but I'm not sure how much there is to learn. Andrade has made significant changes to her fighting style since her loss to Zhang, comparing how Weili and Valentina do against Jessica doesn't really tell us much about how they'd do against each other.

She almost lost against Joanna. I mean, arguably she lost against Joanna.

While the Shevchenko-Joanna fight was not really competitive. Shevchenko schooled Holm, held her own against Nunes etc. I think the size difference is important here, and Val wins sonething like 9 of 10 times against Weili.

the only reason Valentina doesn’t dominate Nunes is she’s naturally a fair bit smaller. most well rounded woman in mma, hard to argue it

Zhang is a small plodding brawler with glass chin and no defense. Perfect for Shevhenko to land her check hooks all night, throw her on the ground at will, and brutalize her into oblivion.

Weili hasn't been plodding in quite some time. She was bouncing around the cage like she is supposed to. She is also not a brawler like Andrade. She is a counter pressure fighter like Valentina but obviously nowhere near her level.

We also don't know about her chin unless she starts getting dropped in every fight here on out. Maybe she didn't recover so well from the weight cut. Who knows. A lot of these girls are having a hard time making 115. Her team has been pushing for the 125lb champ champ fight in part because they don't want her to cut to 115 too many times.

Well here we are.

Your other points are right on.

Is Valentina ever going to lose the belt?
I feel like she’s going to eventually turn 50 and still hold the belt.
