Does Ian Garry stand a chance against Islam?

I'm not sure how Ian wins, but I think he's the most well-rounded fighter with a claim to a title shot.

His length and strength make him difficult to take down but Islam is multiple levels better than anyone Ian has faced.

Ian is pretty good at scrambling and being able to get back to his feet when he does get taken down, but again, Islam is levels better with his top pressure than anyone Ian has fought.

I think the only 50/50 fight for Islam at WW would've been Khamzat. (Shavkat is overrated.)

I don't know that Ian even has true 1 punch KO power because he doesn't sit on the punches and if he did rock Islam, I think Islam would still be able to scramble to take Ian down and recover.

Not in MMA, and not in making excuses for his teammates either as Sherdog's front page has taught me this morning.

He trains with Charles and Maia, and so far his BJJ has been very solid. On the feet he's clearly one of the best, he absolutely has a chance to win, he is getting way too much hate

He is a good fighter and has a chance, but it’s very hard to even have a puncher’ chance against a disciplined and hard working fighter like Islam.
He doesn’t have the tdd to avoid Islam’s wrestling. Sure his tdd looked good against Belal, but so did JDM’s.
Yeah.

But JDM´s TDD is overrated.

Belal was able to takedown JDM 3 times and Burns was able to takedown him 7 times and was winning that fight.
Belal got nothing in wrestling derparment against Garry

I believe that fight will be harder than most people think.

Garry keeps his distance and outpoints people from the distance.
Throwing a lot of straight punches.
Rarely is off balance.
He tries to stay away from the cage and is 6'3 with a 4 inch reach advantage over Islam.
His wrestling and grappling is also solid.

If we'd only count strikers, his style is best suited against Islam.

I'd say he does way better than JDM. Shavkat outgrappled him though heavily.
At this point Islam still outgrapples him, but Ian has a good chance in 1,5 - 2 years.
He grapples with Oliveira on the regular, while being bigger.

Garry looks to have the best tdd in WW . Doesn't mean he can stop Mak but looks to have best chance skill wise. Maybe Morakes has better just on size/ Strength.

yes, islam could lose to Garry, but he should be a clear favorite assuming they’re both at their best. Garry is long, rangy, and very quick. He’d have the speed edge over Islam, his biggest problem though is he fights not to lose, and it’s very hard to outpoint Islam because of his tools and fight IQ, he’d have to pitch a perfect game assuming they’re both at their best. Five rounds is a long time not to make mistakes.

If his takedown defense keeps holding up then yeah he'll have a very good chance of winning. As annoying as this guy is, so far his grappling defense has been good especially in his last fight.

I see a 5 round lay n pray decision but perhaps a submission is possible by Islam.

If Ian is able to keep it on the feet he could win a decision by being an annoying striker. Of course, being able to keep the fight on the feet is a big if.

Who knows, we didn't learn anything from his fight last weekend that we didn't learn when JDM beat Belal. Aside from that Garry is a gamer, is there for points, and likely is very aware he can eye gouge and kick dick for a legal edge in a fight.

The gap in grappling is so massive between Islam and Belal that it gives us no new knowledge whatsoever of what might happen.

Objectively Garry looks good, and Islam is a much better striker and grappler than Belal.

The future of 170 is bright with Islam, JDM, Prates, Morales, Shavkat, and Garry, and I don't care what order they fight each other in as long as they are busy fighting each other.
