I think it's clear at this point their main defense is going to be: "Liberals don't really care, they just want to get Trump." Which says nothing at all about the actual guilt or innocence of Trump.

Using the MAGA Law Of Projection here, this just translates to: "I really don't care what Trump does. He can't do anything awful enough for me to be able to handle the schadenfreude the libs will feel watching his downfall. He must be protected, by any means necessary."

He was friends with him for awhile then wanted nothing to do with him long ago.

It could be a fake or it could be real from a long time ago before he found out what a shithead he was.
