Did 'Black Fedor' surpass the original?

Hmmm... You´re aware that he had a somehow dominant run in Rings, which can be considered a different era too?

Lets be realistic, Fedor has a reputation for fighting cans, most of which is because he was fighting simultaneously for Pride and Rings, and people often dont realise that those fighters with atrocious records were in a different org.

Rings was no different than TKO for GSP, than Cage Rage for Conor, ect.

It isnt a Fedor thing, just nobody counts anyones run in smaller organisations. Thus why Ben Askren will always be a what if fighter.

Nope. Fedor fought in a better HW division in his prime. DC won the title in the worst division in the UFC.

Stipe would've of been average fighter back in the Pride days.

Actually, I’d love to see Stipe vs Sergei.
They would have matched up pretty well.

Holy shit... Do you know Rings´roster? Who competed in those tournaments?

U Seriouz?

Losing twice to Jones

Twice?? He only lost once, and the other a NC.

Should we really compare losses at this point??

I mean while 1 is beating guys like Gus, Anthony Johnson. The other is needs to rob Maldonado, where its so bad even the Russian commission has to overturn it...

Which is unfortunate...

The old WEC 155 division was considered the minor leagues. In most standard rankings, the champ from WEC would be ranked #10 because everyone knew there was no way those small timers could compete with the best UFC 155’ers.
There was no way Jamie Varner, Benson Henderson, Anthony Pettis, and Donald Cerrone would ever make waves in the UFC LW division.

It was not true at all!

U Seriouz?

Chris Haseman 20-17,

Lee Hasdel 9-14

The mighty Egidijus Valavičius
Who was 4-2 in his professional career at the point, with a 1 fight win streak...

The incredible Mihail Apostolov
Who would retire from combat sports after losing to Fedor with an astounding record of 0-1.

Ryūshi Yanagisawa
With an impressive 2-6-2 in his last 10 .

Yes he fought 2 top *LHW's* in Arona(should've won) and Sobral.

But that doesnt put it on par with the UFC or Pride, more lile TKO and Cage Rage, it was organisation to get your start in.

Yet here we are, we dont have to guess, we can all see his competition on rings and see where the large majority ended up. Did most of them go on to bigger organisationa and win titles?? No, they had journeymen records of like 9-14 when they were done.

So there's no wondering how well it compared talent wise.

Fedor has the better legacy at HW and DC has the better legacy overall.

Fedor by a country mile.

DC is great tho.

He reigned for 10 years, DC lost in his prime.

1st of all, Babalu was a HW back then when he started.
In this fight he was around 229 lbs IIRC while Fedor, lighter @ 227 lbs.

Moreover, Arona...A LHW in this fight, @ 202 lbs, but you´re talkin about someone who would manhandle Kerr (!) a few yrs later @ ADCC.

On a sidenote, the Arona fight was close, was ruled a Majority Draw at the end of the 2nd Round [Draw x 2 + 1 Judge gave it to Arona]. Arona had more ground controle, but Fedor had more submission attempts... It is what it is.

Now talkin´ about the roster of this tournament:

Rings: King of Kings 2000 Block A
> you had guys like:
Minotau, Tamura, Couture,Babalu, Valentijn Overeem, Horn,Labasanov,Suren Balachinskiy (was considered
better than Fedor at that time, beat him twice in sambo) etc

Rings: King of Kings 2000 Block B
> Fedor, TK, Ilyukhin, Arona,Kopylov etc

Well both guys were in the strikeforce tourney and who won?

Fedor would always try to beat his opponents at what they were great at. If you were stand up he would want to beat you standing if you were ground specialist he'd fight you on the ground. DC will only fight to his own strengths not his opponents. With that being said Fedor was king of the mountain MMA's GOAT while DC dwells at the bottom.

DC cut 35 lbs to fight tiny Post TRT Dan Hendo.

But Fedor's record is filled with about 15 cans

Fedor was the #1 HW for 7 years.
DC has been the #1 HW for 7 minutes.

And I like DC a lot.

Daniel Cormier has had a better MMA career than Fedor.

<DC-Champ>

Fedor is incedibly overrated, great at his time, but he dominated a single era, and the game caught up to him fairly quiclky.

1 guy was getting KO'd by MW's by the age 33 the other becams a 2 division champ at age 39.

DC wasn't getting punched and kicked in the head in his 20s

Fight age almakes a difference
