Derrick Lewis has fixed his back with the help of Tiger Woods’ doctor

Derrick Lewis is one of the most promising fighters in the UFC heavyweight division, and that’s kind of crazy when you consider the fact that he’s been competing the entire time with a jacked up back. A back that’s forced him out of fights. A back that has seized up on him in the cage with killers like Mark Hunt and Francis Ngannou.

Fortunately, it sounds like Lewis has finally found some relief with a new specialist leading up his fight with Alexander Volkov on the undercard of the big Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov UFC 229 card on October 6th.

”We was calling around, trying to find a specialist. We didn’t want just any doctor working on my back. We wanted a special doctor that specialized in backs. And we found one, it was the same guy that worked on [Tracy] McGrady and Tiger Woods; he helped those guys out with their careers. And what they did with me was they shot me like twenty times in one spot in my trouble area with needles, like back to back. And it was sore for three days and then after that it was like brand new.”

“I was 100 percent yesterday,” he continued. “I was taking it slow the last week, but I really turned it up yesterday, and it was feeling real good. I feel like if I had did this a couple of years ago, I would have been champion. I believe I would have dominated a lot of my fights. To say I’ve been winning with the type of injury I’ve been dealing with, it’s just a blessing. Now, hopefully the fans really see my full potential in this fight right here, because I can constantly train all day long and not worry about my back hurting at all.”

”Before I had to train a little bit then I had to rest because my back would flare up, wait for it to go down and then I’d try to rub it out. And now I don’t have to worry about that no more, I can go for the full 15 minutes, the full 25 minutes without it hurting.”

set up a rematch with ngannou just to make sure that derrick had issues last time they fought.

Sounds like a temporary solution tbh.

The back will NEVER be "Fixed" as long as he's a hundred pounds overweight like he is atm.

Sounds like he has some back issue - maybe even from carrying too much extra weight - and they simply gave him a bunch of anaesthetics so he could train.

That's not a good idea and it will all come back.

Will he ever be the champion?

Not if there is a god.

Fixed by the doctor that fixed Tiger... don't ever expect 100% again.

derrick has joined gsp, anderson, and yoel romero, among the ranks of fighters who's interviews i can only read in their voices

War black Beast! He’s comin for the title and Ronda Rousey fine ass after. Time to go deep, swangin and bangin, Black Beast up in this hoe!

Dropping weight would help long-term but that's good news for now. Hopefully there's many KO's and post-fight victory speeches in the future.

I like Derrick. He is fun and creepy as fuck. But I believe his back problems will haunt him unfortunately.
War Black Beast.

Not necessarily. there is a procedure called 'dry needling' where the needle themselves are the treatment. There is not drug injected. It causes trigger points to dissipate supposedly. Its sort of equivalent to a deep tissue sports massage.

I remain unconvinced, Derrick needz to incorporate more stretching into his workout routine...

Yes but dry needling isn't that special at all. It's actually pretty common for a physical therapist

Won't matter
Volkov will punish him
