Is she sparring Olympic (WTF) TKD or Point/Continuous (NASKA) if she's fight WTF there's no point in teaching alot of hand techniques as she's not going to generate enough punching power to score to the body, and she can't punch to the head (under cureent USTU rules she can't attack to the head at all until she's 11) Push kick/Back kick combinations are great for keeping smaller opponents at distance. Also slide back roundhouse and slide back pada-chughi (switch roundhouse) anything where she can create *her* distance. WTF teaches the smaller oponent to "jam" the taller one by crowding the fighter exactly as you've described. Have her work on speed, by concentrating on keeping her knees togther as she throws her round houses and back kicks, it'll pay dividends in speed later on.
Her tounament is in 4 days and she can't wait. She had the flu and was sick for a few days but luckily had kicked that. I'll let you boys know how she did, I might even post a pic or two.
If you boys are interested in her style of TKD, I'll post her Dojang's web site for you: http://www.tgroys-tkd.com/
nice post scooter, except i disagree with the ignore hand tehcniques part. the thing is timing, catch some1 with a good punch when their leg's in the air would surely knock some1 down or offbalance to set up a kick. i've done that b4 in olympic style tkd successfully.
Your're right !! I tend to think of punching to score not punching to stop Cover punch, back leg round? I don't think she'd generate enough power to knock somone over but she could top them with a cover punch, then follow with a back leg round. What dojang do you train with?
Well RCCOLA it looks like you have put her into a nice facility judging by the website......she is WTF i read it on the website for anyone thats curious.....make sure to post how she does and since she is WTF and tall i will stick to my original post which is again listed below: 1. be aware of the opponents quick dash or attack since they will be smaller 2. when the opponent attacks, cut the attack with the lead leg kick and then counter attack 3. use long distance type strategy 4. use footwork and feinting to create a chance to attack 5. break the opponents stance 6. confuse the opponents sense of distance 7. before attacking, incline the upper body and dash in 8. use quick, surprise attacks 9. use side step or back step attacks some of this might sound advanced for her since she is young but you sound like a knowledgeable guy......you can help her out with it and make it easier to understand
Her tounament is tommorrow so were hoping to come home with some trophies or medals or something. I'll let you guys know how she does!
I say take her to the Hammer house and let Mark and Kevin Ground and Pound her for a while. After that she will want to start playing the Piano!!! Midnight in the garden of good and evil!!
Hey Midnight, your talking about my daughter so do us all a favor and just die!!!! Keep in mind I'm being polite here!
The first thing at the tournament she had to go get her forms judged. She is a yellow belt with a green stripe so all the girls in her age, height, weight & belt color go against each other. Keep in mind; there with 3 other dojangs there too so there were lots of kids. My daughter got the bronze medal in this one but the girl that got 1st was a full green belt but they had her doing forms with the green strips! The girl who got second is the dojang
im sure that she will get them next time..a 3rd and a 4th is a great job...post the pics id like to see them
just keep training and fighting, let her take a look at her loss. if you want her to be a winner no matter what reinforce the loss and what it means to her. (i am not saying do this for it may cause future psyche/behavioral problems and compulsion) good luck, keep training, sounds like your daughter needs to just train more.
i suggest on top of her tkd you supplement her training with street awareness. what i mean is run scenarios by her like mugging set ups. not just the mugging itself but how people are ambushed etc. rape scenarios and escapes, kidnappings, etc. build the fire in her to win and survive by repeatedly putting her into situations she'll win at.
You know, I think I just might try that. But a kick in the groin and an elbow to the throat isn't my idea of a good afternoon with my daughter! LOL! I'll just wear padding!
I started lifting when I was 14 years old. I'm now 20 at 6'3 and still growing. I don't want to get any taller. I've heard mixed reviews about weight training at a young age. I think as long as you lift light you'll be fine.
My daughter is very active so she enjoys exercise. I think it's important for young children to be active in a lot of sports, not just one.
