Dana: Gustaffson could be possibly next for Cormier

Cormier is going to stall Gus for 3 rounds. All hopes of Jones vs Gustaffson II have been shattered. Still hope Gus can pull this off.

The problem with your logic is that Gustafsson sure as hell won't stand in front of him and let him go for chained takedown attempts like he did against Nelson. Gustafsson will be all over the place and scoring while he's at it (with punches, leg kicks etc). Cormier is a great pure wrestler but as an MMA wrestler he's sure as hell no GSP or Jones. Gustafsson made Jones' takedown attempts look novice, even when he shot in hard as hell and stuffed him every single time but once. Even if Cormier can get him down, can he hold him down? Good luck. Jones couldn't, not even a zombified Gustafsson. Cormier's wrestling is so overhyped it's unbelievable. He had a hard time taking down a Kung-Fu and BJJ guy. That should tell you enough.

I'm hoping the keyword there is "could". Doesn't make sense to me.

It would be a sick fight. Winner gets the title shot so it makes sense even though it eliminates one of the very few contenders at LHW that can give Jones a run for his money.

How does it "eliminate" anyone, though?

I don't know why people act as though a loss would destroy either guy's career or erase them from the title picture.

Look at Jones's past defenses before Gus:

Chael: Coming off a loss
Vitor: 2 fight win streak
Rashad: 4 fight win streak
Machida: 1 fight win streak
Rampage: 2 fight win streak

They would both be 1 or 2 good wins away from being right at the top of the line again, especially if it's a close, competitive fight (which I think it would be).

Whoever loses could defeat a top 10 LHW and then still challenge for the title most likely.

Should be a great fight to watch. Gus has incredible TDD with crisp boxing. Cormier is a world class wrestler with good quickness in the standup and good clinch game. I could see this being a dog fight.

Don't have any interest in seeing that fight. I was less than impressed with Cormier in his outing. If it happens I will not make the same mistake again to count Gus out. The kid amazed once, he can again.

Pretty sure it was implied in the post fight conference that Cormier is not going to face him in Sweden.

I hope they dont matchup DC and Gus. Seems like a wase of 2 great contenders tbh

So the reporter asked Dana if Gus Vs DC was a possible future matchup, Dana said yes , this doesnt mean anything at the moment.

If it

Don't like the idea of eliminating a legit contender since there are quite few of them left.

Dame son.

I feel like Gustafsson will get fenced for 3 rounds. But I counted him out last time like a silly fool, so hopefully I'm wrong again.

Definitely feels like UFC are trying to protect Jones, you couldn't give Gus or DC a tougher matchup at 205. Where is the business sense in the decision other than temporarily derailing a legitimate threat to Jones with either outcome?
Protecting their posterboy imo

I don't think they are going to do it, that would eliminate another solid contender.
