Dana: Gustaffson could be possibly next for Cormier

Why not just give him the automatic title shot?
Why even waste time with a #1 contender match?
If this goes down, it better be a 5 rounder.

I like DC vs. Rashad or Phil Davis tbh.

I think Cormier could win and that wouldn't be good. I want to see Gus get his rematch, and I want to see Cormier get a crack at Jones. Pitting them against each other may make for a good fight and test for both, but really wouldn't be optimal.

Considering we've NEVER seen a 205 Cormier, sure. Gustafsson has the cardio to last and the chin (don't give me the Nelson bs, he was knocked out by Arlovski years ago). Gustafsson would use his movement and footwork to make it frustrating as hell for Dan Cormier and box him up. Cormier's boxing skills? Let's be real, at LHW they're nothing and even against Nelson they looked very amateurish. Gustafsson by UD or finish (T/KO). Cormier has like a 10" reach disadvantage against Gustafsson and Cormier is flat-footed as hell. He'd be spent in the first couple rounds and taken out by a 6'5 lunatic in Gustafsson. Head kicks, knees, elbows and punches haven't proven to even drop Gustafsson (even once) and he's fought and eaten flush haymakers from Diabate, Thiago Silva, Shogun and Jon Jones (knees, elbows and kicks).

Let's not pretend Nelson was a bigger challenge to Cormier than Gustafsson (useful hint Gustafs son, hence 2 x s, not 1) is.

why are people mentioning little NOG, I mean he won against who, Tito, or and non contact competition against hashad evans, this guy is not relevant.

They want their favorites just have a easy ride. Mentioning Lil Nog makes zero sense.

Good eliminator fight. If Gus shows up like he did against Jones DC is in for a long night.

Ofc, they want to knock off Gustafson as a possible rematch for Jones because he beat him the first time.

i got gus. cormier talks a lil too much nowadays and im sure gus would humble him down a bit.

This! We basically have 2 legit threats to the title at LHW right now (Gus and DC), don't sacrifice one for the sake of the other...

Thats the whole point. UFC are invested in JJ.

I think this fight favours Gus more than anything. I'm not saying Cormier can't beat Gus but he's down to 205 for the first time after having to make dietary and lifestyle changes to get. I don't think he'll fight to his full potential on his first time down there and he's fighting a very game Gus who is a career 205er and clearly at the upper echelon and getting better each time out. Both men are motivated and want Jones but Gus was arguably robbed of a decision for a title and the first to legit beat Jones. Gus is ready to rip off the head of the next guy they put in front of him not the optimal matchup for DC's first dance a pt LHW.

The reach and height disadvantage alone is crazy. Forget Nelson, he doesn't have the TDD that Gustafsson has. Gustafsson trains with the 3rd best Greco Olympian in the world and Jones realized this after the fact (trains with Jimmy Lidberg). Cormier had to chain-wrestle NELSON (a Kung-Fu fighter) just to get him down. Cormier was gassed after 2 rounds. Gustafsson's hands and feet are far faster than Cormier's and it would be his demise at 205 (even at HW, Cormier would lose). I'm willing to sig bet on this. Cormier is far too overhyped with the Olympic wrestling shit and his boxing (which is still a very big work in progress). He's never faced a guy with half the footwork, movement and speed of Gustafsson. His footwork and movement are exactly why Jones failed to take him down nearly a dozen times. Cormier would be lost and desperate, eating jabs and trying to take down a constantly moving and circling opponent.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiet, this is going to be amazing if it happens.
I want Gus to lose two in a row just to shut his fans up.
Then GusVs Machida, hopefully Gus loses that and gets cut.

Well, to be fair, UFC ranks him at #6, so to say it makes "zero sense" actually makes zero sense.

Cormier getting a top 5 win at LHW before getting a title shot or Gus beating a top 3 HW dropping down to earn a rematch. A potential 3/5 round exciting fight as well.

These are somehow bad things.

I would welcome Cormier/Gus. Cormier/Shad(if Shad wins) and Gus/Davis II would be fine too. I'm not sure why people are keen on "protecting" LHW contenders. If Gus/Cormier isn't made then one of them will be waiting for their shot potentially until 2015 with Glover/Jones not happening until late Spring likely and LHW champ/Cormier or LHW champ/Gus not happening until fall next year.

When you look at the timing Cormier or Gus, which ever has to wait their turn if they don't fight each other, would likely have to fight 1-2 times anyhow. A loss in a Gus/Cormier match up wouldn't set either back far and would propel the winner as a great contender.
