Dana: Gustaffson could be possibly next for Cormier

Well, to be fair, UFC ranks him at #6, so to say it makes "zero sense" actually makes zero sense.

It makes zero sense. If not vs Cormier, than Davis. Those are the clear best match ups. Lil Nog is done.

Now that's what I call a warm-up fight.

I disagree. Look at it from a hype stand point.

Gus was incredibly close to beating Jones. Closest anybody has been, and closest anybody may be in awhile.

If he fights DC it gives them plenty of time to hype his performance against Jones. They can and will talk endlessly about how he pushed Jon to the limit.

If he beats DC there will be a massive amount of talk about him beating a former heavyweight and former Olympian. Who had a ton of hype behind him. Especially in regards to Jones.

On the other hand, if he comes in and dominates him on the ground, or even beats him solidly on the ground; they will talk about how he did what Jones couldn't do. Saying without actually saying it, that he is a better wrestler.

Or, this could just be rumor, and they will both fight Jones at one point.

People on sherdog just want contenders to have easy nondeserved title shots thrown their way. If Gus loses to DC, it doesn't mean he'll never get another title shot. If he deserves a title shot in the future he'll get one. Getting a title shot by beating Bader or Lil Nog it just silly at this point when DC and Davis are possibilities.

Gus vs Cormier could be a good 5 rounder & probably a quite shitty 3 rounder.

It would be a very stupid move by matchmakers to make Gus versus Cormier, as they are two credible contenders at 205. If one knocks the other off, then 205 is back to being a wasteland.

Make Cormier vs. Davis, Lil Nog versus Gus. Whoever wins most decisively gets next shot at Jones after he destroys Texeira.

Some guys in here rather play promoter, than a fan that wants to see good fights.

UFC is going to everything possible to derail a Gus/Jones rematch.

This. Gus vs DC is just a bad decision on Dana's part IMO. Just give Gus the immediate rematch and let DC fight Glover and fans will be happy.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiet, this is going to be amazing if it happens.
I want Gus to lose two in a row just to shut his fans up.
Then GusVs Machida, hopefully Gus loses that and gets cut.

...

:D Lol Gus has no chance.
If Gus wins I will bow down and call you master.
I'll say it again,NO CHANCE.

I don't mean literally that he has zero percent chance but it's low enough.
Less than 5% imo that he would beat Jones.
That includes the possibility of DQ/Lucky flash KO.
Analyse their skills and you will see this to be true.I am not just basing this off the top of my head.

Just saying Gus cant win,it has nothing to do with him being swedish.

Jones is going to out this kid in his place and make him call him master.

This is going to be a sad fight with Gus getting his face smashed in.

Not only does this seem to be a really bad fight for a division that is really lacking contenders, who actually wants to see it?

Cormier looked very lackluster against Mir and against Nelson he looked like he was far less than stellar. Nelson has a great chin and KO power with good BJJ but that's it. He isn't 6'5 with an 81.2" reach and a granite skull who can move like a welterweight. Cormier would have a bitch of a time trying to setup a takedown on a guy like Gustafsson, trust me. Jon Jones learned this himself, the hard way. Even the chain-wrestling Cormier showed against Nelson to eventually get him down would be nil because Gustafsson would never give him the chance. He'd shrug off the first attempt and move out of the way, cut angles, and sting him like a bee. Jones' takedowns are leagues better than Cormier's (Olympian or not). Jones has very solid freestyle, Greco and Judo takedowns. Cormier doesn't have all of this, which he'd need.

I'd welcome this match-up though. At least it'd get Cormier's hype out of the way. Cormier hasn't been nearly as impressive as Jones or Gustafsson in the UFC whatsoever. That won't change, he gasses after a couple rounds completely.

Cormier is going to stall Gus for 3 rounds. All hopes of Jones vs Gustaffson II have been shattered. Still hope Gus can pull this off.

Hope this is a 5 round fight as it would be a better indicator as to whether DC would have a chance against Jones.
I would bet on Gustaffson to take the 5 rounder.
A 3 rounder is more of toss-up as cormier could possibly wall and stall him for 2 round to win decision.

Please dont give Boremier an instant shot at a top LHW... make him work his way up the rankings, give him a top 10 guy or two first then talk about title contention, let him get used to the new weight class.

Hopefully this is a 5 rounder, Gus should be a big draw now.
Also, it's unfair to both guys.
DC should get an easier first fight in the new division, not a monster like Gus.
Gus also deserves an easier fight after that 5 round war and with less risk to ruin a potential rematch with Jones.
