Who funds this? Going to court cannot be cheap in the USA and the woman doesn't seem like someone who has means to piss off money on a long shot if the lawyers actually expect to be paid. Is it safe to assume they just work for free and a % from any settlement or win - bottom of the barrel style? I mean, I can understand that in a class action suit etc. Like, does she already owe the former lawyers or did they just cut their losses of time when it was obvious they are unlikely to get any dividends from the case.

Vast majority of Plaintiff lawyers work for free and take around 40% of the total recovery.

Assume she’s trying to get millions, probably settle for a few hundred thousand, a lot of rich people will pay the settlement funds just to avoid the case.

Sometimes all it takes is 20 hours of work and the case is over.
