Chuck Liddell was arrested early Monday morning for domestic violence ... and the UFC legend is currently sitting in a Los Angeles jail cell.

TMZ Sports has learned the L.A. Sherriff's Department received a call about a fight at a Liddell's San Fernando Valley home. When cops arrived, they investigated ... and determined the 51-year-old former fighter was involved in a verbal argument that turned physical.

We're told the alleged victim is Liddell's wife. She did not require medical attention.

Chuck was taken to jail ... where bail was set at $20,000. He's listed at 6'2" and 240 pounds on his booking sheet.

Innocent until proven guilty.

If she did not require medical attention after a physical altercation with a former UFC champion, it can't be THAT bad, and it possibly involves him putting a restraining hold on her of some kind during the altercation.

True, and as someone who's ex-fiancée repeatedly threatened this type of thing, just for spite, when nothing actually happened ... realize there are many women who run their mouths, purposely escalate arguments when they're upset, and who then "play the abuse card" as a kind of vengeance.

That said, I don't want to downplay any legitimate domestic violence, but people need to realize there are a lot of scheming females out there who "play this card" as a bid for sympathy — and as a means of control, power, and retribution in the heat of the moment. And the man will get the shaft for something which never actually occurred.

Liddell, 51, is being held at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station in Agoura Hills, Calif., just outside Los Angeles, according to an inmate report from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Liddell’s bail has been set at $20,000.

News of Liddell’s arrest first was reported by TMZ. According to TMZ’s report, police were called to Liddell’s home and when they arrived, determined the victim in an alleged argument that turned physical was Liddell’s wife.

Liddell married Heidi Northcott more than a decade ago. The couple had their first child together in 2011 and a second in 2013. According to the TMZ report, Northcott did not need medical attention.

There's a big difference in the Jones case. When a child goes out into a hotel lobby, and asks the security guard to call police, and when the police find a woman whose face is bloodied, with bedsheets bloodied, that is a whole other level of material evidence that abuse has actually occurred.

On the other hand, in Lindell's case, you have an angry woman who called the police, who find not a hair out of place on the woman. This is much more suspicious as an act of vengeance by the woman, over a simple argument, than an actual cry for help for legit abuse..
