Can Islam surpass Khabib?

In terms of impact ... only Khabib got to be the one who brought the dominant Dagestan style to the world.

You only get to pop the cherry once.

In terms of achievement... its close.

He has more title wins already by one if I am not mistaken but Khabib has the undefeated thing going (and never cut hurt dropped, barely ever lost a round ... crazy shit)

Khabib currently sits right on the cusp of "GOAT" territory, which I don't think Idlam has entered ... yet.

It's really a matter of the fine print at this point.

That 2nd belt and I think the tide starts to lean Islam.
Defend ww belt and it starts to be hard to argue Khabib.

Silva had like 16 or 18 consecutive title defences... No mw is gonna beat that any time soon.

10.

You doin some footlong hotdog math

Gsp had like 12 or 14 at ww the division that had the most wrestlers..
11

Edit- only 9.... damn.

13 title fight wins though, but since he lost it regained it and had an interim title on the way back he didn't get any official defenses until his 3rd or 4th title win

Good luck. Islam has 4 title defences at lw he should get 1 more and cement himself as the lw goat.
There ya go

I think the math is right on this one.

Islam is lucky to fight twice a year...
truth

So his chances are like 0 on that. Fedor was undefeated for almost 10 years...

yeah.

and has more hw title defences thatle probably never be beaten.

Technically no. Most of his 18 wins as lineal PrideFC HW champ were non title fights or in other orgs

he had maybe 3 official title defenses... Pride was weird like that

As noone is yet to make it passed 4 hw same as lw.

You're guys opinions don't really mean anything..

the only glazing khabibs record is his die hards and DC his buddy.
All those guys have more title wins

Than khabib has even faught in the UFC...

And nobody mentions Colby's 14 streak

<cruzshake> not even close

(Usman) and 15 streak..

just glazers. Islam isn't the first or the only one.. they both are behind jose aldo and mighty mouse any how.

Is Khabib the better fighter or is this the Royce Gracie effect.

By that I mean Khabib came out with a style no one was ready for. Today though everyone is training how to counter Dagastani Wrestling.

It could explain why Portier did much better vs Islam than he did vs Khabib. Maybe the Portier that faced Islam that night beats the best version of Khabib.

We will never know for sure.
Poirier did as good as he did because Islam has a dog in him that Khabib doesn't. Khabib's plan was to always take his opponents down and start smashing. Islam likes the fight though, he doesn't mind going tit for tat as we've since seen.

This is just one of those things where fighter A. can have a better resume than fighter B., but fighter B. just slays the eyeball test and you know that he’s a better.

Beeb just had that dog in him and could go to a different place in his mind. Truly a special, unique competitor. I can’t imagine Beeb ever quitting or giving up on himself. Islam may even be the more technical, versatile martial artist, but there’s a reason people still doubt him in a way they never did to Khabib,

Islam easily already surpassed Khabib. Khabib doesn't have a win over another UFC great like Volk or Oliveira. Khabib never beat a champion in the UFC. the only opponent who held the real belt is RDA and that fight was before RDA became champion. I mean I can't really count Conor.

Abdulmanap always said, Islam is the better fighter. I believe Khabib retired because of this reason as well. Allow Islam to fulfill his fathers destiny. I do believe Islam is a far more well rounded fighter and will surpass Khabib.

Completely made up.

Abdulmanap said Islam had better striking and he listened more.

Never did he say he was better overall. For Abdulmanap to shower praise on Khabib, his son, would completely go against the ethos of humble Dagestani Muslim father.

Keeps on going he’ll end up lapping him.
He can lap his achievements but he's already lost and lost far more rounds, took way more damage. Had several life and death fights including against some lesser opponents.

Being as good as Khabib is unattainable for Islam. He'll be the first to admit it.

Delusional.

Islam took more damage against Dustin than Khabib did in his entire career.

I don't know if you're high or retarded, but let me fill you in on some facts amigo.

Khabib has roughly 13 fights in real MMA. He literally has more tomato cans on his resume than noteworthy wins. He's in a class of his own in this regard.

He won an illegitimate title from an unranked fighter who had a day job as a realtor.

His resume is as phony as Donald Trump's skin colour. You were duped bro. Shake it off and do better next time.

He's way ahead of Khabibi already.

Khabib definitely beats Islam on the eye test but Islam has defeated tougher opposition who have adjusted to the dagestani style

If Islam defeats JDM this weekend, he will be champion at two weight classes, something Khabib has never done. He already has a dominating victory over Charles Oliveira who ran through Khabib's best wins and beat one of the best 140s of all time in Volk twice.

While Islam does have an argument on paper, he's looked frankly underwhelming? Against Volk and Poirier Islam did not show the same domination that we've seen from Khabib and we've seen him hurt and knocked out. Even against Oliveira, Islam wasn't able to achieve much with his grappling and got hit with a nasty upkick when he was on top.

If Islam continues to collect wins, I can see him surpassing Khabib's resume on paper. Maybe in 10 years or so when we all age out, newer fans might point rank Islam over Khabib assuming they even care at this point, however I don't think he'll ever surpass Khabib in the eyes of those who have seen both.

I think Islam and Khabib are close in terms of quality. Khabib has looked more dominant but Islam has defeated better fighters. I have Khabib ahead for now, but if Islam could dominate JDM and Ilia, he can move ahead of Khabib.
By dominate, I'd mean a finish or a 4-1/5-0 decision without being in any significant trouble of being knocked out . I don't think Islam would Khabib style maul either Ilia or JDM due to their quality and because they are more prepared for the dagestani style than the fighters of Khabib's era.

I guess Khabib has looked better in the gym than Islam and I believe he was the better fighter when Khabib was active but Khabib was also the older more experienced fighter at the time.
Islam already has a better on paper resume, so if you aren't saying he's better now you never will.
The people who put Khabib over him will always glaze him for dominance and "winning over Islam in training" and Islam going up to HW and submitting jon Jones wouldn't even change that.

Khabib definitely beats Islam on the eye test but Islam has defeated tougher opposition who have adjusted to the dagestani style
Nobody has adjusted to the Dagestani style.

It's that Islam was never as good as Khabib, nor are his cousins. This is no secret to any of them and they all freely admit it.

Even when Islam was coming up he nearly lost a bunch of fights.

He's well trained but Khabib is more of a natural and has more of a meanstreak.

Okay, so he’s surpassed Khabib without being as good, he’s still surpassed him.
