All that was supposed to show is that Western sanctions were more efficient in harming westerners through the increase in energy costs than they were at changing the daily lives of Russians. Russians spend about 30% of their income on food and 15% on rent, while Americans spend about 15% on food and 30% on rent. It literally evens out as them spending roughly equal percentages on necessities, even with the day and night economies.

Again, I said percentages of income. Obviously, the quality of life is higher in the US. No one is arguing they'd rather live in Russia for the cheaper rhubarb.
