It was puzzling that RDR didn’t strike more, especially late. He was having success with it but instead chose to hold Robert against the cage. He had a lot more left in the tank and chose to hold on instead. I know he won but he took a huge risk there being inactive in a fight that was 2-2.
You saw a different 5th round than I did. What I saw was Whittaker getting a second wind and showing a sense of urgency while a gassed RDR was praying for the clock to run out.

Yes he won and made me look smart(er) but the RDR I saw last night isn't sniffing the title. Bo Nickal made him look ten times better than he really is. He seems to be the new Stefan Struve, the tall Dutch guy who somehow has no clue how to use his reach advantage striking and just sort of lunges at his opponent instead. The best thing I can say about RDR's standup is that at least he has the minimum Dutch skill requirement for throwing knees. Whittaker's not in Renan Barao territory yet, but he's on the way down and a true up and coming contender doesn't go down to the wire with him like that.
