That wasn’t an Engineer though. You get more angles in the actual movie and they don’t look like Engineers.

I wouldn't say the tech matches up. Alien is obviously set further into the future than Blade Runner with long distance interstellar travel taking place yet the android tech in that film is actually less advanced than the replicants we see in Blade Runner which are basically artificial flesh and blood people.

I would not be at all supprised though if Ash's character was not partly influenced by the original Dick novel.

Maybe I am looking for more in Luv than was there because otherwise the Jared Leto scenes and performance are just a pretentious annoyance to me. But I see Luv as going through something like a high school jilted lover sort of thing with adolescent emotions, condensed into her task as Wallace's heavy.

She went from eyes watering upon seeing a newborn replicant eviscerated, to mimicking that act by crushing Joi, a less real person than her. And I felt like Gosling's not being receptive to her flirtations and advances early on motivated her to pursue and try to kill him with a little extra passion that wouldn't have been there otherwise.

But, perhaps most of all, if Wallace wasn't killing that replicant in front of her as part of her development over the course of the movie, then it was mostly just Leto delivering a bunch of self-indulgent lines for the benefit of nobody but the audience...

Oh, yeah -- that's definitely there. I consider all replicants to be children and so they're all wrestling with their identities and choices, and often times emotion leaks out when they least expect it. Given the echo of killer lesser beings, what would you say about her killing the humans?

As for Wallace speaking to the audience, he certainly is a grandiloquent dude. I like to think he's also speaking to himself, insisting upon himself ... to himself.

So tonight I went and saw Blade Runner again. Yes, 2 hrs 43 min x2 in the span of a week.

I really wanted to see it again for two reasons:

1. I wanted to watch the movie with the expectations of what the movie actually is and will deliver, rather than the improper expectations of something that the movie is not.

2. As I mentioned before, there were a few plot points that I found confusing and I wanted to give it another go and see if that cleared things up.

What I can tell you is that watching the film twice definitely DOES help you to understand the narrative quite a bit. And if you're like me, watching it twice will also increase your appreciation for it beyond what your appreciation already is.

Having seen it a second time now, I still have a few questions about the narrative, but not because I feel like the answers are there and I just missed them. Rather, it's because I think there are a few script issues. For instance, I still have no idea when, how or why Deckard's daughter passed her memories on to K. The movie just doesn't address it and I think that's a bit of a problem. However, quite a bit of the story that was fuzzy after the first viewing is now clear.

I now love this movie. It's an amazing film. I'm bumping my rating from 7.5. up to a 9.

blade runner is one of those movies were watching it the second time makes you pick up to the small details that you didn't realize in the first place. Making the everything alot more clearer

Deckard’s daughter always put a little of her own memories on each of Wallance’s replicants, each different from one another like a signature or some sort. Probably one of the reason he cried when she examined K was because she felt guilty that K is having this confusion whether its his memory or if its even real.
The thing that made me dwell on that toy horse memory is that, Someone told me that it looked like the toy has its horn broken off. That made me think that Deckard’s unicorn dream is passed to his daughter.

On the Luz character, I think she has a nice subtle narrative. Clearly she’s loyal to Wallace but when he stabbed that replicant in front of her and when he made her shoot Rachel, he shed tears. Now she dont always tear up when she sees bloodshed as evidence of the massacre of those human scavengers but she always have a soft spot for replicants. Dragon asked why didn’t she just killed K when she captured Deckard on that casino. Her rather compassionate regard to her own kind and maybe she viewed K as an equal/rival prevented her from killing him outright. When she kissed him near the end after fatally stabbing him and proclaiming “I am the best” made me laugh out loud because it seemed like a cathartic burst of her frustrations.

I think when Mariette picks it up, before secreting the tracking device, she notices on the bedside table. The shadow it casts looks like a unicorn for sure.

My impression was that she cried at the beauty of Wallace's words and his vision, not only because the replicant died. He is like a god, especially to her, and she wants to be more than a slave to him. He calls her the best angel but they don't have a real relationship, and she alludes to this when she tells K that being asked personal questions makes her feel wanted. But she knows to Wallace she's just another expendable body. And when she says "Im the best one" it shows how important his words are to her.

I disagree with your analysis. Where in Blade Runner were we given direct answers? Part of the mystic of the movie is the ambiguity left behind. I will spoiler tag my points so nobody freaks the fuck out saying i ruined it.

What happened to K? Your guess is as good as mine but, the most obvious answer is not necessarily the correct one. Not sure it is even relevant.

As for the daughter and K having memories; my understanding is that, the daughter is the architect of memories for replicants. For all of Wallace's genius, he still cannot compete with Tyrell Corp and what they accomplished prior to the blackout. The daughter being a by product that still eludes Wallace.

The relevance of the daughter being aware of Deckard as her father or who her mother is is a nonissue for me. The biggest points of the film are the ambiguity of it all. From what I saw on film, K's boss seemingly is the only human I watched in the entire movie or I am mistaken? Is Wallace human or part replicant?

After nearly 6hours we are left asking whether or not Deckard is a replicant or not?

After nearly 3hours, we are left with more questions then answers which seems to be a staple for the franchise. I thought it was great too. I think they made a huge mistake with the absurd budget they gave the movie given the originally barely made 30mill.

I really can't think of any movie so far that deserves it more and I haven't seen any film on the horizon that looks like a real challenge.

It will struggle if the numbers internationally don't pick up. Even worse, for fans of the series, it wont happen for another 30yrs if they don't sell more. The budget was foolish given how little the original movie sold.
