So I don’t want to make sense of some person who just saw BP on a whim, telling me my opinion as a 40 year comic reader and a person who has pretty much watched every Superhero movie made, is wrong? Interesting.

You are right @Secret Agent . It’s hard not to bite down.

You are free to start another thread and tell everyone what their opinions should be about the movie and the world. You have unquestionable credentials and what you say should be gospel.

Of course you don't want to make sense of it. That's why immediately after asking me that, you had to tell me, and everyone here, how you know much more about comicbook movies than everyone else. You simply want to tell people why they're wrong, and why your opinion is better.

But you seem to be forgetting what an opinion is as you do it. It's a f'n comicbook movie. If you disagree with why someone liked it, who gives a shit? Do you really need the validation of getting to think "all right, I totally showed that dork I know more about comics than he does!"....?

It was good. There were some weak moments and it was certainly racist, but atleast it was funny. It's not amazing like I'm sure many people are making it out to be.

I was entertained and enjoyed many moments, but it wasn't as good as I imagined.

7/10.

For reals
I felt like screaming "You know theres more you dumbasses!" as the I sat there watching the theater clear out as soon as the credits started lol

You can watch them on YouTube. Fuck waiting.

I think people throw around the term "racist" far too frequently these days, along with a few other words. But, a shit ton of the negative reaction I've seen towards this movie, it's been race that is at the center of a lot of people's issue. It makes it a lot easier to assume racism when the complaints are so dumb.
I can't even count the number of times ive read "so, can whitey see this yet/i don't want to suck the black joy out of theater ".
Is anyone really saying the movie is flawless? Is there any movie with no flaws? People like it for a variety of reasons . It isn't an either , or. I can love the movie, AND the idea of it.

What's new about black people in film? No one is saying that blacks have never been in film. But if you can look at Blade and at Black Panther and say they're the same, then. ..wow. (he's a fucking vampire, why would people rally behind him? Blade was an action movie, how many people knew it was basedon a comic?)
Again, no one is saying that this is the first time that blacks have been on film, it's HOW they are represented is what we're talking about. There's always a Will Smith, or Falcon character to play the "cool black guy that gets all the bitches'", how often do you just see the normal ass black guy on the screen? Believe it or not, all the brothers aint playas with 2 or 3 babies mamas, or the "sistas" snapping their fingers and giving the "mmmmhmmmm child".

And what is most of the world's opinion on Africa and blacks? This movie (though fictional ) gave an opportunity to show blacks as something other than a basketball player, or a rapper, or a street thug trying to make it out of the hood. How many other movies do this, like a real representation of blacks?

This is like if you were to bitch about Asians bitching about a lack of representation after "The Last Samurai " came out. There's no denying that asians were in the movie, but the last Samurai ended up being Tom Cruise. They were bit players in a movie about themselves, playing their stereotypical roles. Black Panther showed blacks beyond their stereotypical roles. They were kings, thinkers, inventors, etc. Wnat other movie has portrayed blacks like this on this level under a big ass company like Disney?
This guy gets it.

LMAO, so you think there is a black void in movies and popular culture in general?

I'm white and growing up almost all of my heroes were black. I loved Bo Jackson, Jackie Robinson, and Charles Barkely. My favorite character on television was Mr. T. And this is from a kid who grew up in town with virtually no black people. And Eddie Murphy was my GOAT comedian growing up.

But thank god for Black Panther.

The only black person with a speaking part in Superman.

point taken.
i wouldnt say im offended but i am taken back that so many people have placed it on a pedestal to the point where your labeled a racist if you point out the films flaws. of which there are many.
and i guess i find it sad that a movie like this is being called the best when to be honest i found it to be sub par at best. and whats new about the black people in this film? ive seen africans in film before, ive seen black heros, ive seen good and bad black people in movies. the masses didnt get behind blade.
its not that the movie was unfaithfull to the source material by anymeans that bothers me.
politics in the film are expected as stated its a part of the source material.
i have to actually ask the question do people actually like the movie or do they just love the idea of the movie?
in that sense perhaps it is allot more than a movie to some people. and i can appriceate that.

Like I said earlier in this thread this black dad at the theaters literally cried like 4-5 times throughout the movie it was crazy. I could understand if we were watching something like A time to Kill or 12 years a slave, that shit gets me to. This was just crazy tough I wasn't even close to emotional when he was crying.

Either way I agree this movie is a middle of the pack Marvel Super hero movie to me. It's not the worst by far (That goes to the first Captain America) but whatever. I did enjoy it.

Gave it a 6/10, it was alright but definitely over-rated. Guardians 1&2, Homecoming, Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Wonder Woman, Dr. Strange were all much better movies overall. The villain in Black Panther was super corny and laughable, the music was pretty bad too outside of the African tribal stuff that I liked. (talking about the retarded rap bass/beats going off after each transition)

If we were not both Brothers of the Hellfire Club, I would kill you where you stand for saying First Avenger is worse than Iron Man II and III:mad::mad:

Such blasphemy cannot go unpunished!

I liked Iron Man 2 a lot. I think that's one of the best Iron Man movies 3 was forgettable. Captain America and the first Thor were horrible. Was falling asleep at the end of Cap 1. Barely made it through. Thor was almost as bad but not quite there.

alot of people knew blade was based on a comic.... and no. hes a half vampire half human. blade was a comic book movie same as black panther.
there are countless great " real" performances by black actors. for instance take clint eastwoods newest movie featuring a real life black hero who saved lives by stopping a terrorist attack.
yeah thats right a true story where the black guy is not a thug or the token athletic guy in the group.
speaking of will smith he is one of the best at playing the " average " guy. i would suggest him in the pursuit of happiness.
i think your not giving credit where its due in respect to how far black actors have come and gone.

and to be fair im not saying its a bad thing that people are loving this movie. im all for it. the more people that like this movie the better. it did its job as a film as as much as i might nit pick on it. it did its job and entertained me at the show.
really thats all i can ask it to do.
it wasent a bad movie, but im not sure i can really call it good either... just kinda meh....
and i was just a little taken back at some of the reasons why that might be.
its clear marvel has it down to a science they know what the hell they are doing when it comes to the genre. knocking it out of the park more often than not.

and your totally wrong about the last samurai. i assume your havent actually watch the move. the title of the film does not refer to tom cruise as being the last samurai.
it is referring to the last clan of samurai that was clashing with a new western influanced japan.
tom cruise is not a samurai in the movie although he fights along side them and even dons the same armor. (a tacky and low point of the film.) but his role in the film is of an outsider looking at the clash of new and old cultures in a very special and specific time period in japan.

Yeah it's funny how people forget how many great black roles there actually has been. This post really nailed it, good job.
