Best movie all time

I think Drive is an amazing film. But I guess it's a bit divisive because it has a definite style and pace that won't be for everyone. If you're expecting a straight up action flick about douchebags driving cars - it's not that at all. I see it as a tragic love story. dat final scene

For unknown reasons there's lot of hate for Refn in the Mayberry. He's a master at using palette of colors to bring the story to life. @Zer

I mean I can see some people thinking there maybe overpraised relative to other more ambitious films but I suspect a big issue is, "I was tricked into watching a drama by the promise of action",

Probably missing a few obvious ones but looking at this millennium quickly I'd say a top 30 I'v seen so far(so far from exhaustive) of something like...

Fellowship of the Ring
Spirited Away
Millennium Actress
The Two Towers
Master and Commander
Return of the King
Lost in Translation
Cache/Hidden
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Inglorious Basterds
In Bruges
There Will Be Blood
No Country For Old Men
Moon
Dogtooth
Black Swan
True Grit
The American
Blue Jasime
13 Assassins
Drive
Blue is The Warmest Colour
Ida
Under The Skin
Nigthcrawler
Her
The Lobster
Fury Road
Hateful Eight
Rogue One
Three Billboards

Alright guys. I want to hear your single favorite movie of all time. Any genre and any decade.

I'l admit, I'm going to sort through these and watch them.
Point Break or Gattaca.

But really it's Point Break.

Actually I have a ranked list of all my favourite movies. Not neccesarily the best but the movies which affected me the most in some way, whether if it's just thrills and laughter or something deeper like inspiration.

Rush
Blow
Snitch
Vvitch

Apocalypto
Troy
Gladiator
Braveheart
Pulp Fiction
Goodfellas
Devils Advocate
The Prestige

start with those.
Day 1 stuff pal

The one that taught us what is best in life.

I’m not super into movies in general, but I love cars and action. In addition, I’m typically fairly stressed from trying to spin a multitude of proverbial plates at once in life , so I’m not into having to think a whole lot while being entertained.

Therefore the last Mad Max remake, and Fast + Furious 5-8 were a lot of fun for me.

YMMV

I totally forgot about a few other good movies:
Nightcrawler
Looper - underrated imo
Inglorious Basterds
Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi
Conjuring 1 (one of my favorite horror movies)
Love at workplace (old soviet classic)

I'd struggle here, so many different genres, so many different memories from great scenes in quite a few different films.

T2
Shawshank
Alien
Once upon a time in America
Cape fear (De Niro)
Silence of the lambs

But as for an experience id never imagined would live up to my expectations, i'll have to go with the GOAT trilogy;

Haters gonna hate, but I class this trilogy as one film, doesn't make sense otherwise.

Ya...LOTR was film entertainment at its finest. If I only had those 3 extended editions to watch for the rest of my life, id be fine with it.

Honestly the last 10 years or so quite a lot of the best cinema has been quite sexually explicite(could add Blue Valentine, The Handmaiden, Shame, Ex Machina etc), I spose you could argue this has tended to an area that's not been covered as much previously by more ambitious cinema(at least in the US/UK) so is rather fresher.

Ex Machina was one of my favorite films I saw in the past several years. @moreorless87
