Ex Machina was one of my favorite films I saw in the past several years. @moreorless87

Bet Garland wishes he'd released it a couple of years latter, might actually have gotten a deserved Oscar nom in the current climate given the message.

For me, it really is a tie between The Lord of the Rings & The Silence of the Lambs.

Blue is The Warmest Colour
This movie doesn't get much mention here, but it is pretty legit. Really well done and the acting is incredible. The acting has an authenticity to it (the film too for that matter) that you don't often see.

When you see that kind of realism normally it tends to be pretty unfocused, just showing everyday life mundanely where as I think this films strength was putting such realism towards focused(despite being 3 hours long) drama. The content being so explicit(which honestly I think is justified for the story) really got the focus on release but I think that film should really be viewed as an example of how drama can still progress towards greater authenticity, especially in terms of reflecting how people really speak(halting, awkward, etc) and how much is left unverbalised.

Honestly beyond that content I think its probably a film Sherdoggers would like given that its smart but lacking in pretension, if anything it feels like a bit of a reaction to your typical high minded French drama(like the Three Colours trilogy for example, not to be critical of those films) having the protagonist be so down to earth thrust into that kind of environment without getting preachy or one sided.

My favorite - Once Upon A Time in the West.

Is it the greatest? It's better than most people realize. The story is organized so well; it's amazingly good.

Has anyone named Citizen Kane yet? I understand that it's become a cliche.
