Best movie all time

Good, I own a copy but I'll take King Lear in English.

I've watched the movie within the last two months. I've also watched Vertigo within the last two months. Unless you knew that many consider them top ten all-time great movies, the thought wouldn't occur to you as you are watching it. Ran is very good; why is it very good? Largely because it's King Lear.

I think pretty much everyone who watches it must be aware its adapted from King Lear(as indeed was Throne of Blood) but I would give kurosawa a pass there considering you could view him as a modern Shakespear in terms of inventing so many modern plot tropes.

In this case though I'd personally say the biggest appeal of the film is its visuals/soundtrack.

He is very talented and I agree that the visuals are great. To a lesser extent you might say the same for Branagh's adaptation of Henry V (1989). I have Orson Welles adaption of King Lear on order. I'll try to remember to post after I get it. In my opinion, his MacBeth is very good.

Is drive really that good? I could never manage to actually sit down and watch a movie about a guy driving. I'm also not a big fan of Ryan gosling so that probably doesn't help much.

Might have to try it out since it's been mentioned by a fellow sherbro, plus Cranston is in it and he is one of my favorite actors.

To stay on topic tho, I would probably say braveheart but since it's been said multiple times already I'll throw in another.

The grandmaster, I might be alone in this but I thought the way this movie was directed and the fight scenes plus it being a story about the man who trained Bruce lee ( in a huge Bruce fan ) all make it one of my favorite movies. If you like martial arts check this movie out, it's awesome!

Did you ever check out Drive?

Too hard to choose one.

Shawshank was on last night, one of the all time greats for sure.

Braveheart
One Flew over the Cuckoos nest
Heat

these are likely the only three perfect movies I can’t think of.....

I’m not sure it’s the best... I’m not even sure how to quantify that all around.

That said, it’s pretty fuckin amazing, almost every movement, word in each scene feeling significant or purposeful.

My top 10:

Goodfellas
Shawshank Redemption
Godfather
Silence Of The Lambs
Jaws
The Jerk
E. T
Empire Strikes Back
Stand By Me
Return Of The King

My picks cause I could watch them over and over without getting sick of em.
