Best 5 in a row wins ever?

Chuck Liddell won 10 fights in a row between his losses to Jeremy Horn at UFC 19 and Randy Couture at UFC 43, including in order Jeff Monson, Kevin Randleman, Guy Mezger, Murilo Bustamante, Amar Suloev, Vitor Belfort, and Babalu. Then between losing to Rampage in the PRIDE 2003 MWGP and at UFC 71, he won another 7 fights in a row, against Tito Ortiz, Vernon White, Randy (avenging his loss), Jeremy Horn (avenging his loss), Randy again (taking the rubber match), Babalu again, and Tito again.

Shogun's run in 2005 is also still the stuff of legend. He started off knocking out Hiromitsu Kanehara in a minute and a half, which is impressive when you consider that Cro Cop couldn't finish him in 15 minutes, and then he decimated Rampage, won a war against Rogerio Nogueira, and to cap it off knocked out Alistair Overeem and Ricardo Arona in one night.

Shoguns run was also done in much less time and without months and months to prepare for specific opponents!

Not a fan of Jones but Shogun, Rampage, Lyoto, Rashad & Vitor would be better IMO. His next 5 Chael, Gus, Glover, DC & OPS is also better.

GSP: Hughes, Serra, Fitch, BJ & Alves is better. Then his next 5 Hardy, Kos, Shields, Condit, Diaz is better.

Anderson: Forest, Maia, Sonnen, Vitor, Okami is up there.

Chael. Lol

Gtfo

You make some good points sprinkled with some ridiculous nonsense

Only 1 title defense is fucking bizarre for how insane Merab's resume is.

Goes to show why title defenses aren't that good of a stat at the end of the day. Let's really look at Cruz's resume vs Merab's, the TJ fight (which really could have went either way) and a youngling green DJ are no doubt there, but there's no depth at all to his resume compared to Merab.

Some guys get gifted title shots left, right and centre. Others have to be on a 10-15 fight win streak. So like you say, title defenses isn't the be all and end all

Aldo - past prime 36 year old, retired afterwards
Yan - went 1 - 4 at that time
Cejudo - 37 year old, came out of retirement
O’ Malley - had him hurt in the 5th, Merab avoided a fight for 15minutes
Umar - Close 48-47

Your salty tears are delicious

Merab's success has you in absolute turmoil

So pretending like Aldo and cejudo were in prime shapes when merab fought them.

Merab isn't beating either of those guys in their prime.

Jon beat Vitor, Chael, Gus, Glover and DC each in peak versions of themselves.

Peak, not peak. Who gives a fuck.

Chael peak or not is not a truly world, world class, elite fighter

Glover only came to prominence when the division fell off.

Vitor isn't a LHW.

Peak v not peak isn't everything

Some of those guys Merab was fighting were better at any stage of their career in or out of peak, than Chael was at any point.

I'm not saying Chael's a bum. But he's nor an Umar, Cejudo, Aldo level fighter.

Fuck "peak" "not peak". It's just noise.

Merab doesn’t get the credit he deserves & I think he’s undoubtedly the bantamweight goat. Look at these names bro in his last 5,

Aldo, Yan, Cejudo, O’ Malley, Umar

That surely has to be the best 5 wins in a row any fighter has ever had? I’ve been trying to think of a fighter that’s had a better 5 in a row than this but can’t think of anyone.
Yeah, but look at the Cejudo and Aldo version he beat. Both retired and came back. Cejudo lost the fight before Merab and Aldo even had a 3 fight losing streak and was 5-5 before facing him. This is like Jones facing a retired Stipe, the name is there but they were far from their peaks. Jake Paul beat Anderson Silva and Mike Tyson, by that defitnion he's the greatest fighter of all time in combat sports since he defeated an mma goat and boxing goat...

Also prime Aldo is a nightmare for Merab and would've killed him. What can Merab do? He's a much worse striker, much worse grappler, everything he does Aldo did it 1000000times better and he would never take Aldo down or keep him pinned against the wall. Aldo wasnt this gunshy asleep olrd version of him now. He was too explosive and would have slaughtered Merab on the feet.

JDS: Gonzaga, Big Country, Carwin, Cain, Mir.

i'm not saying it's better, but it's worth a mention. 3 UFC champions, a title challenger, a man built like a potato, and a partridge in a pear tree.

If UFC 41 had competent judging, BJ Penn would have had:

Caol Uno (UFC LW title fight)
Prime Gomi (14-1)
Peak Hughes (UFC WW title, Hughes arguably p4p no1 in the world at the time)
Peak Bang Ludwig
Peak Rodrigo at MW (Rodrigo had just beaten Mach Sakurai and was considered one of the best MW on the planet at the time)

That stacks up nicely against anything Merab, Jones, GSP or anyone else has to offer.
Not a single fighter on this list other than Hughes does anyone rate as highly as anyone Jones Merab or even GSP fought in their runs. Talk about a victim of nostalgia lol

Na, it's just his nuthuggers like you that are annoying.

- Merab only has 1 finish and that via Cardio Tko.
- He has no power.
- Tries to avoid engagement by hopping around.
- His takedowns often lead to nothing.

That makes him an all around boring fighter to me.

Topuria on the other hand is awesome in the cage.

lol at comparing the cejudo and Aldo that Merab fought to Stipe and Jake Paul’s boxing matches.

What a shit, shit, shit take

I’m not a Merab nuthugger. I don’t care who won that bout and would have given props to both fighters. I’m a big fan of team Khabib.

The fact that your only defence of your god awful take is the other person must be a nuthugger of that fighter shows your demented bias is warping your views

I have zero allegiance to Merab. Don’t care if he wins or loses his next bout. People should be reasonable and give props where due. Not be a whiny bitch hater
