Honestly this is why sparring partners and friends shouldn't fight, they know each other well and were cautious to leave each other openings. The way this went the older Shavkat gets the title shot, while Gary's stock rises somewhat and probably doesn't drop in ranking. Not a bad outcome for either guy.

I think he wanted to cook Ian by grappling w him early and just muscle him around. It was the smart move. Try to keep him from getting that range he's comfortable fighting in.

Belal will dictate where the fight takes place via his superior wrestling. Belal just has to not clinch with him, he can control him on the ground via his conditioning and grind out a 5 round decision with relative ease.
