Yes, but fighters 35 or older at 170 and under are now 3-29. Woodley x2 and Belal.
Belal bucked every trend possible last night. It was a big win and a historical outlier.
No, if we don't count the Woodley-Maia fight the statistic goes to 2-28, not 2-29. Woodley goes in the win column and Maia goes in the loss column. We don't. A guy who's 35+ won a title fight. That simple. Still, if we do, Belal's win is even more of an outlier at 2-29.
Eh I'm not sure about that, boxing and kickboxing have many examples of older fighters remaining successful and high ranked but you could argue those sports have similar issues.170 and lower. It's currently like 3-25 in men's history for title fights where the guy 35 or older won, all 3 of those wins were at 170lbs too. It's not like guys over 35 won't ever win, it's just a clear indicator, if you look at Olympic Judo and Wrestling, I think 1 guy 30 or older won gold in the last 12 years. NFL studies on athletic primes seem to think the peak range is about 22-28. The UFC isn't that competitive of a promotion by design, if they intentionally signed the best and had guys actually fighting consistently with deserved rankings...younger guys would be on top of the divisions way more than they are now but name value requires time and investment from prize fighting promotions.
Belal did great though, Shavkat will help adjust the curse back though.
exactlyThat 35 and over refers to weight classes 155 & below, doesnt it?
Woodley was the only other person over 35 to win a title fight at WW.That 35 and over refers to weight classes 155 & below, doesnt it?
considering what?
He can answer for himself, sir.Racist edgy joke. Is what it is.
He can answer for himself, sir.
Age is not about a number its about mileage and genetics.
With modern nutrition and training I don't consider anything in the 30s range to be old. People like chuck Liddell have always bucked the trend. I think damage sustained is the deciding factor.agreed. maybe you already meant this, but how you take care of your body obviously is a huge factor. we're all living longer as humans, and so fighting careers will last longer.
All black?Do you notice the similarities in all those names?
Thats bc the lower weight classes are usually more stacked with talent. The bigger weight classes has a lot of people with physical talent playing other sports for way more money, thusly leaving a shallower talent pool for the UFC to get scraps from.I thought the 35 curse is just for 155 and under.
