Its too early to say that, the rematch will tell us a lot. If he WAS trying to find a way out just now, he still needs to fight Gane again anyway. We will see how he adjusts. I assume he will be much more grappling heavy from the outset next time.

this is the only way to look at it. the eyepoke was unfortunate, the rematch is coming, it very well might go into the later rounds and we'll be able to use that to gauge how much heart aspinall actually has. assuming there isn't another eyepoke, that is.

Your idea is based on hypotheticals.
You're talking about things happening in the 4th round, when the fight actually ended in the 1st round.

You know what?
Volkov got robbed in his last fight with Gane. Gane shouldn't have fought for the belt to begin with. And when he does fight for the belt, he has to cheat to gain the upper hand.

Why does Gane cheat so much?

Gane broke his foot with the first teep he threw in the Volkov rematch and continued to fight for 5 rounds. You can't teach heart.
