Are Americans falling behind in MMA?

Nice job cherry picking his 2 losses instead of the 22 times he's won. Stipe boxed in the Golden Gloves and was a NCAA Div 1 wrestler prior to becoming an mma fighter. Jon Jones was also a wrestler by trade before embarking on his mma journey. Not only did Jones improve his skillset tremendously, he's a true definition of a mma fighter, adding numerous weapons to his arsenal and keeping an open mind, something that most people don't/can't do.

if DC had trained in shooto from the start [instead of "gluing" martial arts to wrestling] he would have been a better striker

He'd also be a noticeably worse wrestler, and given his body type it'd probably do him a disservice. By that logic any fighter that trained in shooto should be invincible, but that clearly wasn't the case. Martial arts are no different than school subjects, sports, or any other hobby. People usually gravitate towards one and have a talent for a certain area. Your argument is better suited towards the one dimensional fighters. Askren or Ronda never truly learned the other aspects of mma and forever remained a flawed fighter.

Not sure what you mean, we have tons of 'MMA' gyms here. Very few BJJ schools. I think the thing is Americans that have the athletic ability probably choose other sports at the moment. Not sure you can get your college paid for by MMA or BJJ, thats why you see a lot of the wrestling Americans enter MMA.

IF we had shooto, wrestling and boxing in all public schools from what sport would the best mma fighters come from??

link one of these "MMA" gyms and I will show you how they dont train in mma exclusively

That's three combat sports and the opportunity to train them in their purest form. The best mma fighters would probably still be wrestling since most American kids gravitate towards it, especially the parents.

Not exclusively, but they train their BJJ differently then if you were at a BJJ school. Most of them here have even abandoned the Gi and change technique to better fit MMA.

Americans are falling behind in the sense that we’re getting great non American athletes. However America is not falling behind. All those great non American athletes like Ngannou and Khabib train in America. The best gyms are taking all those great athletes and the evolution of training methods takes place in America.
No, just a desparate search for talent w/o investing in it.

Japan used to have top of the line training but they didn’t keep up with the sports evolution and now they’re 4 generations behind, still training like the lions den but with no weight cutting.
Don't know about MMA in Japan, but Judo's great as ever, and universal in practice. Trouble is for MMA, one has to invest the time & effort beyond that BJJ/Wild / "MuayThai" style. ???

Brazil used to have great training but now they’re 2 generations behind, still training guys to use that outdated BJJ/ Wild “Muay Thai” style.
Brazil & the Gracie boys were always over-rated. I think there is a quality quotient that's being missed.

America stands alone at the top.
{<Mcgoat}Hokay. All aboard.{<Mcgoat}

And then give it all to an Irishman.
This thread is complete nonsense but your point doesn't work. All the PPV money comes from Americans and it's given to a Russian and an Irishman with some of the 1% in the US taking the rest of it.
It's not making you richer.

I understand what you’re saying and I wish it made me richer. All fighters pay taxes when they fight on US soil. I agree this thread is nonsense.

Did you read the Op?

Doesn't sound like it

That means as martial arts get kicked out of public infrastructure like community centers police stations and public parks the only place left is the private business practice in the strip mall

Private business has a very different attitude about martial arts and Combat Sports then public infrastructure

There’s Ebs and flows in MMA. Metas and such. Americans are well represented but they don’t need to sit there and hold multiple titles to not fall behind. There’s a strong American presence in MMA. There’s a whole world out there. Why is it surprising that we have diversity of greatness? I don’t take it as any threat. I love it.

<Oku02>The only problem is you get paid to do this....<Oku01>

It almost seemed like you were making a rational point for once

Who knows what that was

Something about "paid"

Well I've been involved in Combat Sports for about 30 years now and I can tell you that America's representation across-the-board is dropping Like a Stone

You should check out my America can't win series

They're all neatly encapsulated in this o p

You think it's nonsense that America has 33% of the top 50 rated athletes in heavyweight?
