Anyone else just sad we're not going to see Jon/Tom?

There were two superfights on the table heading into this year: Islam v. Ilia and Jones v. Aspinall.

We're getting neither.

UFC is at an all time low right now.
Dricus/Khamzat is another one, but that fight might end up not happening either.

That's a big fight, yeah. But it's not enough to save what has been an absolutely terrible year.

Personally, I don't really care how Jon does or doesn't look and what impact this does or doesn't have on his legacy. I'm a little tired of goat debates and endless whining about the guy.

However, I'm actually quite sad that we're not going to see this fight. I legitimately thought we would and now I'm more disappointed than I expected. I highly doubt this will happen, but I'd be so pumped if he had second thoughts or if he gets the itch to come back after Tom's next fight.

This sucks...

It would have stunk to high heaven.

Trust me, you're not missing anything.

Nah, I'm good. Jon Jones is insufferable and I hope he fades away out of the public eye.

Honestly mate I'm not disappointed, I never thought Jones was fighting Aspinall. I would have liked to see it though, I think people might have been writing Jon off a bit early, but we'll never know of course.

Not one bit.

Jon Jones didn’t retire to avoid Tom Aspinall. He retired because there was nothing left to conquer.

Let Gane break Tom. Jon already dismantled Gane in two minutes flat, without a scratch, without a doubt.

These are the same hands that broke legends, rewrote legacies, and silenced eras. He didn’t need to touch Aspinall to defeat him. He made him irrelevant by walking away.

The game keeps playing, but the king already left the board. Have fun playing checkers, Tommy.

Yes, was by far the most interesting fight at hw, but what can you do if jones doesn’t wanna fight tom

Not really. Jon didn't have a legacy at heavyweight, and it had dragged on too long to be interesting. Beating Jon at 205 in 2019 to take his belt would have been massive, but at heavyweight and given how little he's done over the past 5 years it doesn't have the same value.

I couldn't care less, I think I was in the minority who couldn't care less if Jon fought again, I just want active champions who are respectful people which is a big ask when MMA has a bunch of disrespectful buffoons who forgot the core value of martial arts, honour, respect and integrity. Give me Machida's, Pantoja's, Khabib's, Stipe kinda fighters, I can't stand the Colby's, Jon Jones, McGregors, Jean Silva kinda people that are just disrespectful, cheats and in my opinion what make the sport look bad, influence more trash behavior and just make it cringe to watch

Of course. I believe those two are the current best at HW, why wouldn’t I want to see that fight? Anyway, Jon retired (for now), so good riddance. Time to get that trainwreck of a division moving. Even if it ends up with Tom can crushing for years, I’m here for it.

Not at all.

It is no big news.

Better fights await us than that one, imo.

No, time to move on. The Jon Jones era has ended and we now can have clarity in the HW division.

We knew this fight wasn't happening a long time ago so the idea of it not happening isn't the news here. It's that the bullshit finally ended. It would have been a great fight but Jon pussied out.

I'm more pissed that the UFC fucked up the HW timeline when there were still a semblance of a top 7 to work with. They come off like fucking idiots for ever thinking giving the keys to Jones was a good idea.

I appreciated his early run, but to be entirely honest, I'm glad to see him go. I think he embodied the sport killer style of Jackson-Wink just a little too much there. Between camping on belts, all the doping suspensions, and some weak performances at LHW he arguably should have lost, it was time. Great fighter*, all jokes aside, but yeah, not much fun to watch for me anymore.

Yes, I am so disappointed, I was really wanting the fight to happen, UFC HW division needs big time HW fights, there would have been so much buzz, hype and excitement, it would have been a huge event. Its a real shame, so disappointing.

No big deal. We'll see Tom fighting in the cage.
Do squash matches really count as fights? Sure, it's heavyweight MMA, so most potential opponents who aren't Gane have a puncher's chance, but still, Tom is looking at a succession of title fights that are just a notch above defending against Steve Lombardi. That's why it's so disappointing that the fight with Jones never happened; that could have been a really good fight.
