Another tipping thread. Who is wrong here?

I usually round up and do 20% of that if I have cash on me, cause I think they get taxed on it if you tip on the card.

Yeah, I really don't like coffee shops or subway or drive-thrus or takeout asking for tips. That should fall on the establishment to pay them since that is what the establishment is and is not an additional service, but someone bringing my stuff, filling my drink, clearing the table etc seems like it's worth some more money, otherwise nobody would want to take any bigger groups.

Food trucks, I always 20% because they're family run and not Maccy D's/Subway/Starbucks etc. But a transaction that takes 20 seconds does not a 20% make.

I don't mind tipping waiters or waitresses. I know they throw some to the busboys/runners if it's that type of place.

I'm not generally going to tip at coffee places. They've run those prices so fucking high already, they can afford to pay their employees.

Might be different if I ordered some half-caf three splashes of soy milk blah blah.... But that'll never happen.

Tipping at coffee places really pisses me off more than restaurants. Coffee should be no tip 100 percent of the time. Vietnamese coffee/donut shops make excellent coffee without asking for a single tip.

Do you think I am unaware that the French colonized Vietnam or something? Why else would there be a French Vietnamese coffee shop? Just random chance?

Anyway, I mean the tips. They have a tip jar. And when you pay with a card, it asks you how much you want to tip.

No one has to tip. If all they are doing is serving your food, they are doing what they are hired to do. Unless they do something beyond their scope, you are under no obligation to tip. If you guys think thats bad here in Canada even places like Subway, Pizza joints have tipping options for PICKING UP your own food. The nerve of them. lol

Tipping is a legit scam. All the expectation is put on the customer instead of the employer to pay them a decent wage.

Did somebody in the thread actually say they tip food trucks? Lol. Same deal with people tipping at Domino's when you pick up your pizza. The answer is no. Why are you tipping them exactly

If that guy is angry somebody didn't tip, they should add gratuity by default, which by the way is starting to become extremely common. Some of my favorite restaurants are starting to slap on 20 to 25% by default and it's really bad. The service is terrible because they know they are getting tipped regardless

Except he's not talking about the product. The food is the product, and if you only want the product, you can order take out and just pick it up to eat at home. Dining in is the product plus the additional service of someone waiting on your table.

What I can't stand are people expecting me to tip for getting a coffee or a supermarket line. WTF. I'm coming to pick up from you.

Saying that, the tipping system is stupid and wrong but that's the system we have here in the states. Can't stand foreigners who come here and are cheap fucks.

I've actually been there dozens of times. Excellent ramen and I was never followed out. What type of cheap ass has a meal and then leaves without tipping?
