Should people tip if they receive subpar service?Everybody keeps saying "you should just pay a living wage." Thing is: in the US, the restaurant industry is super hard and most fail. We have reached an equilibrium with rents and costs that if a restaurant actually paid a living wage to the waiters, it would be impossible to stay in business.
You can complain all you want about the stupidity of the tipping system, but that is what we have here. The wait staff relies on tips in this country, so not tipping is a piece of shit move. It's kind of in the social contract we all live by in the country - tip your waiters. If you can't afford that, don't eat out.
Saying all that, the restaurant guy has moronic street smarts. That guy with the skateboard could have easily smashed him.
Tipping makes everything worse for everyone.
Not a good amount. Tip should reflect server attitude / service recieved. Any special requests, extra trips, made your enjoy the meal more ? Hook 'em up.Should people tip if they receive subpar service?
Tipping is almost always optional. Eating out...removes the shopping time & expense, food prep, cooking, serving, and the cleanup from all prep, cooking, and eating.Tipping culture needs to die. It’s a way to offload costs onto more generous customers
Ding Ding Ding ! Most people don't know: Wait staff AFAIK is exempted from minimum wage. The wait staff relies on tips in this country, so not tipping is a piece of shit move. Here's an example of the last time I refused to tip: it was at a nationwide buffet chain. You go to these places to load up on protein—not for the service. The servers’ only real job is to clear dishes so you can keep eating. I’m not looking for small talk or forced friendliness from a waitress. Not a good amount. Tipping for a mom & pop restaurant frequented? Yes, they remember that and take better care of you.
Tipping a food chain's takeout order - no.

Cosign.Tipping has bugged me enough where I rarely eat out anymore.
I was a server for two different restaurants a decade ago and made the bare minimum legally like 2.18 an hour or so. I still averaged out about $25-30 an hour and that's with customers who didn't tip and slow days where there wasn't much business plus I'm a dude so girls naturally made even more. These servers out here have it pretty fucking made. I kind of get a laugh out of the woe is me bullshit attitude some servers have. That job may be a server's only LEGAL way of support.
Waitering in NC, USA (years ago) had min wage at about $7 per hour. Servers, male and/or female was 2.01 per hour. Earning 10 hours on my check was $20.10 Before Taxes.
Employees that Never dealt with Any Customers earned almost 4 times what we did, legally.
Come on bruh...The guy probably did take out too .. and they expected a tip
If you have a piss poor attitude and don't take GOOD Care of your tables, it's on you. Both wrong imo. But yeah, at 2:30 an hour or so wage tips are a vital part of income.
Never had that whiney attitude, usually made good money and enjoyed doing it.I kind of get a laugh out of the woe is me bullshit attitude some servers have.
I worked at a nice restaurant so it was the managers job talk to the customer in that instance. Only had one instance where this happened to a coworker. It was years ago so don't remember the outcome. I really don't think some people understand the wage amount. Either way it sucks. Its not about a whiney attitude but some support families on that work. At the time it was my 3rd job and I lived with a roommate. Didnt have kids etc. The importance is all relative to what you have to cover. I was young and had very little burden. If you have a piss poor attitude and don't take GOOD Care of your tables, it's on you.

For consistent A-Hole non-tippers...smile, talk real nice, then "accidently" tilt your tray and spill TF outta a cold glass of sweet tea on the table and him. Apologize immensely, say you'll be right back with a towel, but only come back after you've had a good break.
IMPORTANT - Make Sure to tell your co-workers to watch the action before doing it.![]()
Come on bruh....No
The OWNER collects the profit and sets the price. If he wants more for a product, set the price before hand. He's not an employee who doesn't control prices or wages.
It's 100% on him and I hope plenty of people in that neighborhood see the video and determine if he should stay in business or not
This is correct. I have also been to restaurants when the tip is included no matter the number of people. That would catch backlash. Restaurant margins suck. Alcohol is the only area where a place can make margin if they have a license.Everybody keeps saying "you should just pay a living wage." That's on the owner, though. I've always thought it was bullshit that these owners are counting on the customers to pay their employees. Bake that shit into the price of the food. Both wrong imo. But yeah, at 2.30 an hour or so wage tips are a vital part of income.
