Another tipping thread. Who is wrong here?

Obviously you can't chase down and threaten customers. They should just wait until the guy comes in again and fuck up his order and shit in his milkshake then completely ignore him at his table.

No

The OWNER collects the profit and sets the price. If he wants more for a product, set the price before hand. He's not an employee who doesn't control prices or wages.

It's 100% on him and I hope plenty of people in that neighborhood see the video and determine if he should stay in business or not
Except he's not talking about the product. The food is the product, and if you only want the product, you can order take out and just pick it up to eat at home. Dining in is the product plus the additional service of someone waiting on your table.

It's horse shit when takeout places still want a tip because that IS just wanting more money to sell you a product, but sit down places give you the option of just buying the product via takeout, or buying the product and taking the additional service of someone waiting on your table.

I think the owner was wrong to follow the dude but I understand his rage. The customer is a kind of a dick. He knows he should leave something if he dines out.
Nope. Just because it's expected by certain people, doesn't mean he should.
People who demand tips should charge more for the food and pay the staff extra from that.

I think I would enjoy a cruise like that.
Where did you go? I went from Fort Lauderdale around the Caribbean for a week on a Slayercruise. A bunch of actors from Buffy/Angel/Firefly...it was as camp as it sounds. But a ton of fun. Holland & America was perfect.

I went on carnival to someplace in Mexico. I don't even recall the name.

It was my first cruise and we got a good price. But I guess you get what you pay for.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I only did it because of the Buffy stuff, I always thought going from island to island would be too hectic but it was really relaxing. It wasn't cheap but we booked it a year in advance and paid in installments so didn't really notice the dent on the bank account.

There would have been one flatlined manlet restaurant owner had he come up on me. LOL. What a joke.

We met family in Charleston last weekend and I treated to a seafood dinner. The place was rustic, no frills, on the water and delicious. We stood in line to order, found our own table and picked up our food when it was ready. We walked to the bar to order beers. The ticket included a 20% Service Fee. As I said, the food was terrific but I won't go back. A $40 service fee for self service? The entrees were reasonably priced so they could have raised them 20% without raising eyebrows, but it was just an excuse to charge an extra fee.

Sit down service I'm always a 20%er because 18% is extra maths. But getting an ipad shoved in your face for a coffee that you're taking away in a plastic cup is barmy.

It’s getting out of hand , I tip , generally 20% minimum, not because I have to but because I have the money and throwing the server a few bucks so they can live comfortably is cool with me , but like I said it’s getting out of line , I’ve had people look at me sideways for only tipping 10% on pickup orders , you’re not serving me you’re handing me a fucking bag over a counter, I was recently told it’s standard to tip the pizza delivery guy 15% now , on top of a 3 dollar delivery fee that the restaurant keeps , so basically the restaurant isn’t paying this guy at all .

Also the biggest mistake made in the video was the owner following the guy outside, very bad judgment, if you were that mad or offended just wait until the guy comes back and deny him service , say it’s my place and I don’t want you here end of story

This antiquated business model is absolute dogshit and society needs to start seriously working away from it.

If businesses cannot pay their workers a livable wage from their labour alone, then their model is junk. Let it die.

Second paragraph is my way of thinking. I'm a vengeful bitch when it's someone or something I care about. And refusing him service would be sweet justice.

Most American restaurants have an automatic service fee if your party is over 8 or something. It's not exactly a tip anymore.

Don't pay for that. Do not tip for pickup. It's cool to leave your change or a dollar if you are feeling good that day. Don't tip 25 percent for coffee.

If everyone is against tipping, why haven't restaurants started pricing menu items appropriately and advertising NO tipping?

Someone must be pro tipping.....
