I thought it was a good movie. The only issue I had was with the deep fake and the Ripley callback line. I like how they were young because it made it more believable on why they did what they did to be free. I would rate it 8/10 right behind Alien and Aliens.

Hey, it's Linky!

Hai brudda

Movie looked great, fantastic art direction and the dedication to practical FX aliens over CG is to be commended.

But... added nothing new or interesting to the Alien mythology, arguably retcon undermined Ripley's victories in previous films, made the Aliens seem timid and slow compared to previous movies.

It played like an Alien’s Greatest Hits album but with a cover band recording them.

Solid banger. The script was very solid. Maybe, the end lost a little gas. I think that the story benefitted by keep the stakes and everything small. Fewer characters. Fewer guns. Fewer people that have any idea what is going on. Kids who don't know better. The script was kept lean and I think it benefitted from that. I would put this behind Alien and Aliens and in front of Aliens 3. It is the first Aliens movie in along time that made me feel like I was watching something that was a continuation of the first two movies. Well done and a solid showing. I would give it an 8.5.

The things I liked and didn't like about it.

Getting away from space marine nonsense and just about a crew scavenging equipment. This was done in Aliens Resurrection but I think it was done better here.

The cyborg is treated as being nearly human and is given affection by the main character

I am unsure as to why the ship was abandoned by Waylyn Corp. That was never explained but didn't need to I guess.

The cyborg Rook was an interesting callback character.

The pregnant later giving birth to some weird hybrid was alright but hybrids have been done before

The black goo stuff is too much of a McGuffin

I liked that the series got back to feeling like the main characters were way out of their depth rather than having space marines mow aliens down like a field of corn

I liked the setup premise of the corporation finding the alien floating through space.

A lot of people are pissed off about the Ian Holm deepfake. It definitely sucked and took me out of the movie just by how fake it looked, but it’s consistent with the alien universe. Synthetics are mass produced. God awful execution though.

It was alright but I think they would have been better just building a Ian Holm mask and putting a bunch of white cum all over it. I think CGI teams bit off more than they could chew.

It wasn’t a ship, it was a space station. The people on the planet didn’t know it was there because the cloud cover is so thick the people in the surface can’t see the sun, let alone an object in orbit.

Weyland-Yutani didn’t abandon it, it’s just that its entire crew was slaughtered by xenomorphs, the local Weyland-Yutani people running the planet didn’t know it was there, and FTL travel in this setting is slow, so it will take months before the head office on Earth to get the news of the disaster and years before any relief ship can make it to the system.

I liked it. Kept me entertained and engaged throughout. The android was the star of the show. My two biggest knocks are that I expected this to tie into the lead up to aliens. I expected some fan service ending. Instead it really felt like a stand alone film. Also, I really hated the human/alien hybrid at the end.

3rd best movie in the franchise. Actually felt like a horror movie. Some gruesome kills. The aliens look awesome. Not perfect by any means but definitely revitalizes the franchise. Rain and Andy had a great dynamic. The best part of the movie is that the characters don't act like idiots like they do in every other one of these films. They were just regular working class people trying to survive on a mining colony and somehow way smarter than the expert scientists in Prometheus.

21 century scientist are smart in general outside of their specialization?

That was my biggest issue with Prometheus and Covenant. Especially Covenant. You have all these scientists doing stupid sh*t.

It was good for 90% of the movie including having the annoying tweaker die by acid but then the last 15 minutes became Alien Resurrection and yeah that was fucking awful.

Every god damn alien movie thinks the audience wants to see some hybrid alien when the original alien is he best design. They got this big black cock looking thing put together by H.R. Giger that is amazing and they keep fucking with it.

I would watch the original Alien design wreck some inferior designs in a gutsier and crazyer movie.

Also can we move on from the Ripley clone main character, i would watch an enchanced 70 year old woman do her thing or a heresy alert male main character.

I posted this in another thread but can some of the people who genuinely like this movie rebut any of this:

-“Get away from her you bitch” Wait what this callback line hasn’t actually been spoken yet.

-One of the reasons people love Aliens is because of how the epicness is ramped up from Alien with there being tons of aliens as opposed to just one. Romulus shits all over that.

-One of the reasons people hate Alien 3 is because it kills the victory from the ending of Aliens yet Romulus kills the victory from the end of Alien.

-Okay the hybrid was probably done better than in Alien: Resurrection. The water scenes were done much better in Alien: Resurrection however. Wait people think the hybrid is cool now for some reason???

-Most fans don’t really care for Prometheus or Alien: Covenant and Romulus is chock full of Prometheus/Alien: Covenant lore and people love it now for some reason.

-Bringing back a long dead Ian Holm was a mistake. He looked horrible. If you’re going to do this you don’t give him 15 minutes of screen time, you limit it as much as possible. There were literally people in the theater laughing at it.

I enjoyed the movie goonies plus aliens in the beginning. The android guy was the best character and did a great job. The end of the movie lost me but overall I still enjoyed it.

7/10

Why the xenomorph in Isolation is the best one.
