Ghost Rider also took down Galactus with his Penance Stare, forcing him to relive the pain and terror of all the countless people who's planets he devoured.

Hilariously, when Ghost Rider tried to do the same to the Punisher, Frank completely no-sells it. Because Castle feels absolutely no guilt about the scum he kills. 😈
Strange cast a similar spell on him in the same battle where Thing finished him off.
I hope we see that in the movies.

Galactus' power ranges in the comics, usually based on how long he's gone without feeding.
This is sometimes portrayed by a reduction in his size. He's been down to about 20' tall before and KO"d by the Thing in that state.
He could have been nerfed, but he could have also been weakened by hunger.
Well, I can tell you which version of Galactus I did not want to see on screen: the one who is stupid and weak.

Very fair. Another perspective could be that he was mostly concerned with kidnapping the creepy cgi baby and didn't want to risk hurting it by going full-Galactus. Never go full-Galactus

If the audience needs to put work in to find interpretations that make the movie less shitty, it's a failed movie.

I don't think it's a failed movie but I do agree that just the few post I've seen above have way better explanations that could have been tied into the movie to explain Galactus going down so easily. Like he skipped feeding in order to get the kid quicker and got too weak.

I think it's a failed movie. That ending was so stupid, I have no real interest in anything Marvel does next. And I started this thing as a huge Marvel fanboy.

True, but far from a failed movie, imo
Meh. Its box office was extremely front-loaded, which seems to indicate Marvel fans saw it and the general audience wasn't interested. Its ending was so stupid that I'm not really interested in what they do next. Everyone I know who saw both movies praises Superman and doesn't have much good to say about FF.

The big thing it has going for it is the positive reviews, which I can't explain.

Box office failure, yeah probably. Esp to Marvel execs, but from a movie goer perspective it had too many good things about it for me to consider it a failure

9/10

Totally enjoyed this movie as well. Fantastic Four is such a hard IP to make into a movie IMO. I am more or less echoing what everyone said.

1. Loved the fact that each FF got their time in the sun highlighting their strength and weaknesses. Their chemistry was perfect too.

2. Silver surfer is such a boring character in movies and they did it well. I loved her entrance and that speech (featured in the trailer) was one of the best. It brought chills the first time I saw it and I watched it a bunch of times afterwards. Wish I hadn’t and just caught that in the movie. It would have truly enhanced my experience. And the action with her was not too much and not too little.

3. Lots of bitching about Galactus being nerfed. Plenty of reasoning for it. And why not? A prime Galactus would have required way more than just the Fantastic Four. You’d need the Avengers + Dr Strange and Wanda and even then that is not enough theoretically. You could use the ultimate nullifier angle but that would have been too cheesy. No way a non-weakened Galactus + Silver Surfer loses to FF. Might was well created a What if episode ending with the Earth being eaten.

Note: Read online after watching the movie and found out that there is a version of the Human Torch that became a Galactus Herald. Was the scene of Johnny offering himself to Silver Surfer for Galactus a nod to that plot line???

Great movie. Looking forward to them mixing it up with the other heroes next year!

It's been confirmed that it was RDJ in the mid-credit scene, even though he's uncredited. He filmed it while shooting Avengers: Doomsday.

@Dragonlordxxxxx
Yes, it's true. That's why I said in my reply that if they decided to show RDJ's face in the post-credits, that would have cost much much more.

I've heard RDJ has been acting very Karen the Diva on set. Sounds like he got way to much influence on the character (if we're to believe the rumors)

Fantastic Four: First Steps passes $500 Million at box office. @Dragonlordxxxxx

This means it at least broke even/made a little bit of money?

These movies are too damn expensive.

I just realized something. With all the inflation. Well we have theatre screens in our pockets. So I guess theatre prices outside the theatre kind of snuck into the world at large

Maybe. The rule of thumb is ~2.5x budget, which for the reported $200mil for FF:FS is $500mil. But there's a lot of moving parts and its impossible to know for sure what the actual break even point is. So the film may have covered costs, but it could still be in the hole and actually need 3x budget (not uncommon for movies with big advertising budgets, which are additional costs on top of production). What it comes down to is that, if it did make money, it won't be a lot. Its got maybe another ~$25mil left in the tank domestically, probably a bit less than that internationally. So it won't hit the 3x mark, more like 2.75x.

And I totally agree: budgets on these movies are becoming unsustainable.
